[[Again, there's nothing visible on the orb. The sound is muffled, and the voice unidentifiable, yet somehow oddly familiar, even as it changes and sways.]]

There's a spot here... past, present, future... it all comes together, warping all around it with it's weight... [[There's a faint, breathless laughter as the voice grows louder, leaning closer to the cloaked orb as the tone pitches up.]] If I jumped within, I wonder if all could be changed to rip apart that which marches us all to the emptiness that we've been Ordered to....

[[There's a demented giggle that gets higher and higher pitched before exploding out into an unhinged loud laughter, getting louder and higher until suddenly droping to a low note]] How many times will all be moved? To pieces, to pieces all, as we dance away into the next land....

[[There's suddenly silence, heavy breathing barely audible as the shadows from the other side of the cloth covering the orb shift, the shape of fingers becoming identifiable as the cloth wrinkles. When the voice speaks again, it's very low, quiet and shaking.]]

Even these hands hold no power... What good can they do when all is bound....? Too close to that which holds all in its grasp...

Would that they break and bring all to it's end!

[[There's nothing very visible in the orb. Light filters in a little through the cloth over it, but nothing enough to tell who's using it.

There's a long moment of silence before a voice speaks. It's faint. Distant and muffled and has an almost wispy quality to it.]]

Flow away, flown away, to where none can say.... to the wood, to the sea, to the peaks, to the depths... the walls crumble as we all fall down and down...

[[There's a pause before there's a soft laugh. It's hard to even tell what gender the person speaking is, through the muffling and the odd intonation in the voice.]]

It's all falling apart, isn't it? Time has warped, the walls are falling once more... falling falling falling...

[[another laugh. This one's a little higher pitched. Maybe it's a girl's voice? Then it suddenly drops down again.]]

I saw it all... from my tower high, I saw it all, but no one would listen... no one would listen and now it's all coming true, isn't it? Everything will fall again... again and again, we're locked into it, you see? Locked...

[[The voice cuts off suddenly. When it resumes, it's shaking.]]

I'll smash it all... never locked away again. Never never never--

[[and the orb suddenly goes black]]

Where: The Old Capital
When: GHB 16 & 17
What: As foretold when the Kingdom was in deepest peril, the mythic sword of Rubilacxe has once again appeared in the Old Capital! Embedded deeply in a large stone set in the middle of the fountain in the town square, the mythical sword waits for the bravest of heroes to pull it free!

... well. Not just heroes. Looks like everyone's having a go trying to pull that thing out! It seems the locals of the Old Capital are making a tourist's spectacle of the whole deal. While there was a debate if they should charge people to try, it seems instead they've raised the prices on meals and rooms, and children (and some adults) can be found all over selling small cheep wooden carvings that may or may not look like the sword in the stone and other cheep souvenirs.

Well. That's the old capital for you! Lucky that you've gotten to use the king's fastest horses to get there unnaturally swiftly so you won't have to stay the night.

So, what'll it be, hero?

Today is the 6th day of the The Beginning of the Season of Great Heat in the 137th Year Since the Wall Fell.

Deep under the empty darkness of the moonless night sky came a growing light... far too early to be the light of the sun to send the monsters of the Two Faced Forest into hiding for another month. This light came from deep within the White Forest, growing with alarming speed and strength. The residents of Schwanheim who normally were deeply hidden away in bars and basements during the New Moon came creeping out of the woodwork, perching on tall buildings and the climbing the city walls to peer out at the far off glow and whispers began spreading through the town much like the fire consuming the White Forest.

The roaming fire that had been spotted dancing through the forest had found it's target...

As the crackle of the flames grew audible to the town, so did a loud, keening scream; a mourning howl. From inside the woods? From near by it? Human? Inhuman? It was impossible to tell. But it did not last... minutes after it began, it was silenced, leaving only the roar of flames to fill the night air.

Almost as if in response, the creatures from the Two Faced Forest retreated, slinking back into the wood as the flames from it's sister forest grew brighter and brighter.

By morning, all that was left were charred sticks and smoldering ash... and something more in the distance.

A tower. Gleaming unnaturally white in the charred wreckage around it, untouched by flame, but not untouched by the forest. Vines, unburned, still twined around it, the trees closest to it still defiantly green.

In all the talk of the fire, another rumor quickly surfaces: The young white mage has taken ill and lies in a deep sleep, unable to be woken in the Monastery. A connection? No one knows. But the towns people will be clawing at the Heroes of Schwanheim, all but pushing them out towards the forest to investigate, while others clamor at the King for answers and action.

The weather is predicted to be painfully clear despite the cloud of smoke hovering around the White Forest.

Today is the 5th day of the The Beginning of the Season of Great Heat in the 137th Year Since the Wall Fell.

Growing whispers of curses are being traded in the market square, saying that a princess has been cursed to fall into an enchanted sleep and is waiting in the castle for a prince to kiss her into wakefulness. She's been there for days, now, such a scandal! Surely one of you heroes can spare some time from your oh so busy schedule to get your sorry butts up there to kiss her already! Tsk tsk! Any prince will find themselves all but pushed towards the castle to bring their true love to wake the poor spell bound princess~

A similar curse has been laid upon the Foundling Prince who lies asleep in the castle dungeon. His curse is spoken of in much quieter whispers, especially by the young maidens of the town who mourn and fret over his fate. Driven by the loss of his brother, spurned by his love who left for the coastlands, can he truly be blamed for his weakness that led him to be corrupted by the darker forces in his heart? There's even been some growing jealousy over the Princess who the Foundling Prince trapped in his tower of ice, much to the eye rolling of the elderly in the town. Really, as if a tormented Prince would kidnap anyone less than a Princess in his hour of temptation! Those young girls should be trying to be the pure hearted maidens who redeem the fallen Prince! That was how they could become princesses, after all...

And speaking of princesses! With the departure of the Wicked Princess (or should it have been Queen? Though there hasn't been a Queen in years!) the sweet baking Princess has offered to take over the party instead. Though the venue is rather small... He can hardly fit half the town in that bakery, can he? Maybe the Totentanz mansion would be a better place? Why, with all the work they've done fixing that place up, it would be prefect, wouldn't it? (Prefect for seeing how they've fixed up the place and if you know who is still lurking in the hallways...) The townsfolk (who all want to be invited too!) will be pestering the poor Princess to change the venue. What better place to wait out the New Moon than a dance party in the lair of the heroes, after all? Certainly a nicer place than the Drunk Duck for fortifying oneself against the terrors of the New Moon...

For those newer heroes, any question about the New Moon will be answered with overblown stories of terror; the thorns that normally rise to seal in the darkness of the Forest fail when the moon's light does, loosing such horrors that cannot be described! Not that that will halt to attempts and stories of horrible monsters that escape from the Two Faced Forest to feast on any so foolish enough to step outside the safety of the city walls, men turning into monsters, monsters turning into men, both walking the streets of Schwanheim looking to terrorize the unaware and ravish young maidens! (or young men. Monsters aren't always picky.) Heroes should be on their guard, else the towns people will push them to the walls to protect the city so that the locals can safely get drunk and hide away from the dangers of the night.

Yet, it's not the Two Faced Forest that will be seeing action tonight... Not that anyone knows that yet, of course.... But there has been a lot of traffic out there lately. Between heroes and mysterious flames... something must be going on, right?

The weather is predicted to be sunny and warm. The only clouds visible are those of the Giant Kingdom, but those should clear up by late afternoon, leaving an utterly clear sky for night fall. Ah, if only the stars were bright enough to replace the moon's light....

As the Heroes of Schwanheim rushed at the Hero of the Mountain, the time around them shattered, the Hero of the Mountain's time magic clashing against the magic of the grey stones the Heroes all had been given so that instead of being flung off into the farthest reaches of time, they and a part of the Hero of the Mountain were splintered off like the spokes in a wheel.

In each spoke, a battle raged, the hourglass that seemed to hold the source of the Hero's power shattered and the demon inside the sands released, the hero herself slain by either the demon she had wielded the power of, or by the Heroes. The demon itself, thinking that it would be stronger once free of its prison found itself instead weakened, and as the Heroes unknowingly worked in concert, the deadly blows landed all at the same time, destroying the demon and undoing the shattering of time so that all the Heroes once again stood together, as if they had never been parted.

As the sands of the shattered hourglass blew away in the wind, so too did the effects of the warping of time fade way. The King returned as if he had never left, the clock in the town began to run with it's old reliability and signboard in town returned to its former inane glory, its caretaker resuming his job with no word to where he had been.

And yet, all was not as it had once been. In that spot where the battle raged, there is a strange point of magic. A warping of space that seems to pulse. It is only visible to those who hold magic deep within them, or those who have been touched by it and those who's magic can see into the future may find themselves drawn to it and their arts touched by its strange power.

Today is the 13th day of the Height of the Season of Rebirth in the 137th Year Since the Wall Fell.

The weather is unseasonable cold. Cold enough that a light snowfall began dusting the town around midnight, about the time that the moon began to dissolve, as if the flakes of snow were the glowing dust from it falling from the sky.

While the moon sometimes under goes a night where it is eaten by the darkness, only to emerge again, whole as before, those nights are often predicted and well known, celebrations held around them, far more somber than the Height Moon, but a more religious occasion, as those who still worship the natural flow of the world tell stories of the battles between the Light and the Darkness that the moon been blackened, then reborn echo.

But this was not one of those times, nor was it the same sort of eclipse.

Before the snow fell, there was a sound like a crack heard in the direction of the far mountains. Those who looked up at the time of it noted that the moon didn't look right at all, seeming hung wrong in the sky. Then ever so slowly it began to dissolve, tiny fragments of it crumbling off and falling to the ground in a fine white powder of snow, bringing with it a deep cold that quickly sent the farmers out into the fields.

An icy snow, it stung like a tiny shard of glass when it hit exposed skin, leaving any who were not bundled up against the cold spotting tiny scratches and cuts, and rather cranky in the morning.

Between the midnight run to save the freshly planted crops, the abrasive snow and the cold, the town residents are rather grouchy today, those who were out in the night complaining the loudest, bitter about anything that comes to mind. Children also seem affected, a moon-scratched pair of little boys are especially on everyone's shit-list, seen going around town causing destruction as they go, smashing flower pots, tipping over carts, and being disrespectful to all.

Those who slept through the strange eclipse, protected from the falling harsh snow seem unaffected by the moon-scratch malaise, but as more and more of those who are affected continue to cause problems and be argumentative, even they seem to be falling prey to it and giving back as good as they were given.

They heroes are not immune to this plague, anyone who was out and about when the snow began to fall seem similarly scored by the hard snow, and those who were not will find themselves being harassed by the locals who were. After all, it's totally obvious that those good for nothing heroes who haven't even found a way to defeat the undefeated thorns should have stopped this. Heck, you good for nothings are probably behind it, aren't you? Why I oughta...

It had been a long while since Anya had last descended on the land. The battle between Order and Chaos had been raging for quite some time, each side gaining just a little ground, only to be pushed back by the other. It was a tired dance, practiced and dull, balance held to almost the point of stagnation.

But that had changed... The call to other worlds, the summoning of champions... Anya had watched, wanting to see how this changed the game, changed the Balance that she was charged to uphold.

A few individuals. A pair of knights. A trio of princesses, a mage... A small flurry of activity and then...

Nothing.

So dull... Was this the great stroke of genius that Order had devised to challenge it's ageless rivals? Family reunions and playing dress up? Chaos's servants, so busy with their current battles, could offer no counter move, resulting in the same stagnation as before.

Slowly, she inhaled through the thin cigarette at her lips, eyes closing as she held the grey smoke inside as long as she could, feeling the toxins and tars tearing at the cells within, the cells that would forever regenerate as a human's could not. A microcosm of the battle of Order and Chaos inside of her until she exhaled, the smoke escaping her lips into the clouds around her.

Tossing the cigarette aside, she stepped off the spire in the sky she had been perched off, smokey robes fluttering as the wind pushed up against her falling, twisting and darkening to transform into a tight black dress that flared around her as she landed, bones crunching and snapping at the impact only to reform and regenerate as if they had never fractured. She reached out, catching her cigarette effortlessly and taking another slow drag on it. The smoke was black as she exhaled this time, black and heavy as it spread out, creeping along the ground, billowing up and twisting into familiar shapes; a well tended cottage, a small store with its faded sign and weathered siding, a tall spindly church with towers trying to reach the sky, cobblestone roads pestered with stubborn weeds, empty water troughs next to an abandoned stable...

Hollow footfalls echoed off the empty streets as she stepped into the newly created town. With one last inhale, she tossed the cigarette casually over her shoulder where it twisted and transformed, a black, glittering jewel clattering on the cold stone to rest at the side of the well in the center of town.

This exhale wrapped smoke around her body, obscuring her completely as she stepped back into nothingness.

A test.

A few days later, almost all the towns posted the same story: The village of West Haven had been found empty, all inhabitants vanished as if spirited away by some force. Some reports speculated about witchcraft, others invaders, others a curse. All ended with a plea for heroes to investigate and find out what had happened in the village.
