Day Change: the 10th of Rebirth's Decline

thequestgiverAgain, a still blue sky. Doesn't seem right for Rebirth to be so still, even if it is the Decline. It's almost like Heat came early and it's gotten the farmers grumbling.
And it's not just the farmers grumbling. The failure of the town clock has started quite a few squabbles of when things are do be done, and the blankness off the gossip board is starting to wear at the town's biddies who have decided to make up for it by starting their own version... pasting printouts of their gossip papers all over town whenever the mood strikes. Without Signchanger there to keep the more frivolous postings from taking up space, or the limited space forcing competition between the gossips, these papers are everywhere, filled with wild speculation about the King's disappearance, reporting every miracle the Hero of the Mountains has preformed, every detail of how the Princess Alayne was holding court with detailed commentary comparing it to how the King held it leading to nostalgic references to the last time there was a Princess holding court and a multiple paper debate over How Things Should Be Done, and wasn't it scandalous that the Hero of the Mountain refused to accept the dear Princess as a stand in for the King. Royalty was Royalty, after all and almost all Princesses were foreign at some point, just because this one hadn't been married in yet (which was just a matter of time, as whenever that good for nothing Charming returned the King was sure to give them his blessings,) it didn't mean she was any less proper to give a proper Hero Blessing and send off!
Other gossip papers gushed about the impressive fight between the Foundling Prince and his brother the noble Knight that had spilled out into the market district. Now this was proper behavior! The Knight who could not join his brother in royalty taking his rage at his brother's fortune to blows, the bonds of brotherly love broken by jealousy, leaving the poor Foundling in deeper despair at his lot in life, unable to share his fortune with his beloved brother and instead being betrayed by him. Maidens swooned just at the retelling, which grew more and more detailed as new details were revealed including a tragic love triangle with another Prince who could not drop her manly disguise and join her loves as her true self and who was powerless to do anything but stand and watch as the two men she loved most in the world fought.
Speaking of tragic stories, it would seem that the ghostly Hero's quest to regain his life for the one he loved was successful! But what's this? His True Love was but a common Rogue! Though to have stolen the heart of a noble spirit such as the Mentor turned Sage, truly there must be more to the story! Perhaps she is a Princess who was forced to become a Rogue due to her kingdom being destroyed? Or is she temping him with her trickster ways? So far, stalking the couple has reveled very little, leading to the conclusion that more stalking needs be done to find out the true story of these star crossed loves!
Other rumors are tittering about the evil wife of the blacksmith being spotted leaving the Old Capital with a cart, rumored to contain either a priceless artifact stolen from the castle, or a mysterious figure who had appeared in the ruins when it fell a second time. Either way, she stole something of value and should be watched quite closely!
In quieter, less published rumors, there is growing unease with the Hero of the Mountains. Reports are unclear and whispered, but there's something not quite right about her. Something in how she acts, perhaps... sure, Heroes were expected to be arrogant, they were better than everyone else, after all! But there was just something off putting and not right with her act. Not accepting the Princess Alayne as a True Princess (when it was clear just to look at her that she was!) accepting rewards from people instead of just from the King (or Princess, in this case!) insisting that only the King could give her the blessing she needed and a few children reported seeing her talking to thin air... Quite distressing, really. The sooner she went off to fight those nasty thorns, the better!
