Day Change: the 5th of Rebirth's Decline

thequestgiverToday is the 5th day of the Decline of the Season of Rebirth in the 137th Year Since the Wall Fell. The sign still says the 3rd. No one's quite sure what happened to Ole Man Signchanger, but people are starting to worry. Why, with him not there to change the date, it still could be the 3rd as far as the hungover masses think! And even when some bright youngster got the idea to make his own 5 and climbed up there to pin it on, it wouldn't stay, leading to many hushed whispers. Having the proper day on the board is a very strong tradition in Schwanheim and to have the day be the same two days in a row is very distressing.
What's even more distressing is the sudden silence of rumors from the mountain towns. And it's not just Elenore's children who aren't returning her messages, since that would be nothing new, there's been utterly nothing from the mountains since the middle of the previous day. The orbs all seem to be working fine, and new messages are going through, just no replies are being returned.
Reports from the boarder of the thorns are even more worrying. The speed at which the thorns are advancing seems to have sped up. It's still a crawl, but instead of just one distance marker being overtaken over night, it was two. Gossip is everywhere about the two events, wondering if somehow they're related and how they must be since they happened at the same time!
But there is some good news! The Hero of the Mountains has been spotted on her way to the Old Capital, luckily having avoided whatever catastrophe befell the mountain towns. Though it's likely that if she hadn't left, why, whatever befell the towns wouldn't have happened at all! A hero like that would have been able to easily defeat whatever caused whatever happened. It was just how things were, right?
But with the Hero of the Mountains being no longer at the mountains, it stands that the heroes of Schwanheim should go in her place and see what happened, right? All heroes should expect to be pestered today, with everyone insisting that they go and personally check up on any loved one, friend or former roommate that they know out there in the mountains.
[[OoC: This day will last from 6/3 til 6/10. There will be an open NPC log going up today for anyone who wants to pester an NPC about anything, as well as a log going up for the witch with the candy house for those who want to pester her as well.
