Orb, Day 2 of the Great Heat's Beginning

[Kay looks tired. His injuries haven't fully healed yet -- there are some bandages visible above the neckline of the tunic he's wearing. It looks like he's done his best to hide them, but not quite succeeded.]

So, uh...I've got this horse, and...does anybody want it? I mean, I'm not going to do anything with it. I can't freaking ride a horse. So it might as well go to someone who can, right?

I can get around just fine without it, and I don't have a clue how to take care of the damn thing. Someone take it off my hands already. Same with this sword thing.

[He holds it up, turning it back and forth in the light, looking at it.]

I don't need it. I don't even know if it's any good. But if I keep it, it's not gonna kill anything but dust bunnies, because it's not coming out from under the bed, you know what I mean?

Any takers? I'll trade you something for them.

A queen has no king or queen, she has herself.

[He blinks, caught by surprise.]

That's cool, I guess.

[Meeting a queen is kind of neat. Like meeting the Queen of England, but more legit. Kay is also deeply glad he has not already put his foot in his mouth talking about monarchy vs. democracy.]

So it works for you. The whole royalty thing.

[ she looks a bit amused at that reaction. ]

It works best when it betters the kingdom. As my kingdom stands now, being ruled and fought over by usurpers does it little good.

[Wait, what did "usurper" mean again? The word sounded familiar... Kay dug back into his memories of reading adventure books when he was little. He remembers it having something to do with royalty -- wasn't it someone who took a throne that wasn't theirs?]

Did you get a chance to actually rule it before they kicked you out?

No. The Usurper, Robert Baratheon took the throne before my birth, slaughtering my family either in battle or with his own men to do the deed for him. My brother Viserys escaped with my Mother on the last of our fleet, cast out in Essos.

Now, I alone remain, the last of the blood of the dragon.

[It's a good thing he didn't care to debate political systems anyway, because saying "that wouldn't have happened if they could have just run for office" would have made Kay an enormous tool.]

...I'm sorry. It's rough, losing your family.

[ she glances over at him, expression impassive, though there's obvious resentment and bitterness in her eyes. ]

They did not even spare babes. Yet they were raised up as 'kings'. Westeros shall know of it's true queen soon enough.

I thank you, for your words. I hope you are not familiar with such a loss.

[And he thought American politicians were scummy. Jeez.

As for his own family...Kay opens his mouth, takes a breath, then shuts it. A lot of things run through his head -- his mother's suicide, his sister being taken away, and the fact that just a week ago, he found his father again because his father was manufacturing what was basically a vampire army...]

Not...exactly, no. Let's not talk about my family, okay?

[Time for a subject change!]

So do you have a name? Something more personal than True Queen of Westeros?

[ she glances over at him. ]

Daenerys. I am called 'Khaleesi' by those who know me.

[The darkness from a moment ago is gone, replaced by a friendliness that's almost playful.]

So which would you rather I called you?

[ she sees that, and raises a small smile, tone light. ]

Khaleesi.

[The "ma'am" sounds like a joke, the way he's saying it, but not a mean one.]

[ she raises a brow, but smiles. ]

How long have you been here?

[It's a subtle change, but he's definitely relaxed a little around her. Hearing about her family won his sympathy, and she's not unfriendly.

He laughs, a little self-consciously.]

Three days. It's funny -- it feels like a lot longer.

[And he'd already gotten himself into trouble, as the lingering injuries from that ice tower showed. It said something about Kay that he couldn't go three days in a new place without getting in a fight.]

This place works strangely. I have no doubt it feels longer.
[ she furrows her brows ]
It might be wiser to keep your horse.

[Kay shakes his head.]

I already said I couldn't ride it or take care of it, so really, neither one of us is doing the other any good. Why should I keep it?

Here you might learn things you never thought to learn before. It would be a useful thing to learn. Do not your people travel by horse?

[He laughs at the idea.]

Nope. Not for -- yeah, I think it's a hundred years. I can count on one hand the number of actual horses I've seen in my life.

[As for learning to ride...]

I'm not sure learning to ride's a good idea. Most animals don't like me very much, and even if they did, who'd teach me? Don't the people here have better things to do than hold my hand while I fall off a horse?

I can think of many better things that the leaders here could be doing. Have you spoken with their 'King'?
[ daenerys doesn't bother hiding the slight scorn at mentioning him ]

If you wished it, I could try to teach you. It may be a thing of the past where you come from, but here it is a swift way to travel.

Yeah, I met him.

["Asshole" is implied in Kay's tone.

As for learning to ride...he can't exactly tell her that he doesn't need to because he can run as a wolf to get places quickly. But if he accepts, maybe he'll get to hang out with her more? But that hanging out would definitely include him making an idiot of himself, because there was no way he wasn't falling off the horse at least once.]

I don't know. I can get by without it...

[He looks uncertain.]
