Today is the 13th day of the Height of the Season of Rebirth in the 137th Year Since the Wall Fell.

The weather is unseasonable cold. Cold enough that a light snowfall began dusting the town around midnight, about the time that the moon began to dissolve, as if the flakes of snow were the glowing dust from it falling from the sky.

While the moon sometimes under goes a night where it is eaten by the darkness, only to emerge again, whole as before, those nights are often predicted and well known, celebrations held around them, far more somber than the Height Moon, but a more religious occasion, as those who still worship the natural flow of the world tell stories of the battles between the Light and the Darkness that the moon been blackened, then reborn echo.

But this was not one of those times, nor was it the same sort of eclipse.

Before the snow fell, there was a sound like a crack heard in the direction of the far mountains. Those who looked up at the time of it noted that the moon didn't look right at all, seeming hung wrong in the sky. Then ever so slowly it began to dissolve, tiny fragments of it crumbling off and falling to the ground in a fine white powder of snow, bringing with it a deep cold that quickly sent the farmers out into the fields.

An icy snow, it stung like a tiny shard of glass when it hit exposed skin, leaving any who were not bundled up against the cold spotting tiny scratches and cuts, and rather cranky in the morning.

Between the midnight run to save the freshly planted crops, the abrasive snow and the cold, the town residents are rather grouchy today, those who were out in the night complaining the loudest, bitter about anything that comes to mind. Children also seem affected, a moon-scratched pair of little boys are especially on everyone's shit-list, seen going around town causing destruction as they go, smashing flower pots, tipping over carts, and being disrespectful to all.

Those who slept through the strange eclipse, protected from the falling harsh snow seem unaffected by the moon-scratch malaise, but as more and more of those who are affected continue to cause problems and be argumentative, even they seem to be falling prey to it and giving back as good as they were given.

They heroes are not immune to this plague, anyone who was out and about when the snow began to fall seem similarly scored by the hard snow, and those who were not will find themselves being harassed by the locals who were. After all, it's totally obvious that those good for nothing heroes who haven't even found a way to defeat the undefeated thorns should have stopped this. Heck, you good for nothings are probably behind it, aren't you? Why I oughta...

[[OoC: This day will last from 3/11 til 3/17. You can check out the calendar here. As always, poke the mod account if you have anything you want put on the calendar, and feel free to reply to this post ICly!

Anyone who wants their character to be moon-scratched, feel free! Characters affected by shards of the moon will see only the ill in things and want to destroy everything because everything is crap. This plot will span 2 in game days, the first being this one and the next will be dedicated to fixing/cleaning up/etc. Try out any plans you'd like to see if they work, doesn't have to be the "proper" one from the Snow Queen. :) Any ideas you want to run by me, either reply here or poke me on plurk or on AIM at Frandenut. The Snow Queen herself can be available if anyone wants to track her down.]]

[Steve hadn’t learned as much as he’d hoped from his audience with the King, but it was a start. He had ideas about where to start looking for the information he needed and when the weather cleared, he would ride out to see the thorns for himself, if Harley cooperated.]

Clint. Thor. I spoke with the King about why we were brought here. I didn’t learn much about it, but if you want to know what he said, please come see me. [He pauses, eying the Orb cautiously. Years of trying to keep the Germans from intercepting messages made him suspicious of most forms of communication until he was certain that it was safe.] I’d prefer not to discuss it over the Orbs.

And... [When he'd been in town, he'd noticed something had changed.  The fawning over the heroes had faded and there was something almost mean in the air that made him cautious.]  Be careful.  Something's going on, but I'm not sure what yet.

[He says a brief farewell before ending the ‘call’ and turns toward Tony’s workshop, sure that his friend is going to give him hell for speaking with the King without him.]

[James the self-described great and terrible appears in the orb. Behind him is the market place, alive with shouting people. The wizard himself looks a little worse than he usually does. On top of his usual frown and disheveled disposition, his face is peppered with shallow cuts.]

The hell is wrong with these people today? Try to buy some damn apples and they throw a shitfit over your gold being stamped wrong. If shithole didn't have something to do with me getting back home I'd burn it to the ground.

[He doesn't think to mention the strange spectre he saw in the sky because clearly arguing with vendors over apples is more important.]

They're crappy apples anyway. Look at this one, it's so bruised it might as well be a prune. Ffffft.
