There were fourteen of them on our doorstep this morning.

Oh, darling, tell me, what hideously sweet things do you make for the general public?

I make cookies, sweet buns, cakes...although I hope they're not hideous.

Well, I hope they aren't, too. And that's the problem.

How much for some sweet buns?

[A bit of a smile.] That depends on how many you want, and what you can afford. I charge on a sliding scale.

The kingdom covers a great many small tabs for me, I've found. And perhaps a dozen? Though I wouldn't possibly be able to come for any before tomorrow, I'm afraid.

Are you a princess too?

[His tabs have also been covered in a lot of places--he practically has to bully vendors into taking his money, or free baked goods. It just doesn't sit right with him.]

That's okay. We're running low anyway, so I'll bake them fresh tomorrow. What time do you want to pick them up?

[Because if you are, Peeta, you are simply going to have to let her help you with that...well. Hair, for starters, and after that will simply come as it will~]

Late morning. I'm afraid I don't have a watch, but an hour or two before noon, does that work for you?

Yeah, I am. [He rubs at the back of his neck.] I guess they're usually girls, but for some reason, it's me, too.

I'll put them in around midmorning, then, so they'll be hot.

There's nothing wrong with that, you know.

[Yeah, it's not just you, Peeta. Not that she'll say anything about that.]

I'm sure it wouldn't take much to look smashing, either. Trust me, I'm an expert.

[That grin she gives you, Peeta? It's meant to be comforting; it probably is not.]

I know. [Why would it be? They don't even have princesses in Twelve, much less rules about whether or not they can be male.

But he laughs nervously at the second comment.] Thanks, but I'm a little sick of being dressed up.

[Hair slicked back for the cameras, the white gloves and tuxedo--a wedding suit--he'd worn before the quarter quell. He didn't have it as bad as Katniss, but it still made him uncomfortable.]

[She laughed, softly, and winked at him.]

It's okay, I know most men don't care for the extras, Peeta. And I'm charmed, truly, to meet you, as well. Have you been in the city long?

I'm fine with my hair the way it is, but thank you.

[Gently, but firmly.]

Not really--a few days. Are you new?

How do you like the city so far?

[If he starts finding the local seamstresses sending him special dresses, though...]

I've seen very little of it, honestly. The castle, and the market. It's...rather quaint. And dusty.

It's peaceful, though.

Docile, certainly. Unsettling, though.

Unsettling? How so?

The locals would rather force you into drag, young man, then give you a pair of pants, and you don't kniw what I'm talking about?

Well, compared to where I come from, that's pretty tame.

It is nice not to wonder if any of my neighbours want to eat me. The problem is, if anyone here did, sugar, they'd probably just say so.

Consume. Devour. They all mean the same thing. Even the little old Dutch lady probably thought about it once in a while, though she'd have just wanted a little blood. Vampire and all. But the poor dear would never do something so...crass.

I don't live in the best neighborhood, but you take what you can get, I suppose.
