[The dark-haired man in robes just stares, giving the impression he's more fascinated with the craftsmanship of the Orb than anything he sees beyond it. They're just mortals, two-a-penny in this world as they are in his own.  The world in which he finds himself looks pleasant enough; this isn't the Halls of Waiting, unless Mandos recently installed castles with gleaming spires, white fluffy clouds and a soundtrack of cheerful birdsong. Apparently, he thinks, fallen heroes have a fate apart, and curses are meaningless.

He doesn't see any of his own kind. Perhaps, given recent events in his life, that's not a bad thing. He picks someone at random and decides to make his presence known. After all, it wouldn't do to appear unfriendly.]

You can call me Curufin. I'm actually a prince myself, by birth, although it's probably better not to go into that. Terribly boring story.

[Her demeanor is suddenly noticeably more friendly.]

I have to admit I'm a little confused.

They told me I was whisked from the battlefield to this place, to answer a call for heroes - champions - I forget. Something along those lines. They also said that we are many, those of us who were summoned in this fashion. Apparently they were expecting one. Now we're here - I'm not entirely sure what is expected.

Also, there's... this. [gestures down at own wizardly robes, embroidered with spangly moons and stars]

I don't suppose you can shed any light?

I'm afraid I know only a little more than yourself. There is some sort of mysterious plague of thorns on this land, and we have apparently been sent here to do something about it. Why so many people were chosen I don't know.

Perhaps they were hoping that one of us would be a gardener...

It's all very odd, I have to say.

Quite. But thus far nothing has happened to affect us in the castle. As long as I'm able to live comfortably, it doesn't really matter to me why I'm here.

I suppose. Comfort is important.

I might go and have a look around outside. It seems that the best way to understand what is happening here is direct observation.

It wasn't my choice to wear it. [Not that he really minds wearing ladies clothes, he does that all the time, but he usually tries to stay away from dresses.]

Maybe more accurate to say I woke up here. I don't remember deciding to travel here, at any rate.
