[A new face, feminine, blue, and topped by, well, tentacles, appears in the Orb. She looks rather frustrated, and as she speaks, her voice carries a note of the same thing.]

My name is Dr. Liara T’Soni. My kidnapper insisted that this...device...would allow me to speak with others taken from their worlds. Like it was a gift, to help me play his little game. Of course, I’m probably just standing here talking to a rock. Goddess, I haven’t done that for a while.

[Shaking her head, she puts a hand up, covering most of her face.]

There isn’t much I can do without information, and what I’ve been given isn’t very helpful. I don’t suppose that anyone else had more luck getting answers than I did, but it can’t hurt to ask. Do you know anything?

[She drops the hand and sighs.]

We can’t possibly have much time left, so does anyone have a way to get a signal off of this planet? I don’t even know what cluster this is, so I have no idea how far away the front is, but I am certain that it is moving closer. They have hit just about everything else already. I must speak to someone in the allied fleet as soon as possible.

So. Where would a girl go to find a safe place to spend te night?

At least the wheel has been invented here. [Grin.]

Some might say the castle is quite accommodating in regards to temporary lodging. I've been staying at the Drunk Duck Tavern and Inn. Good rooms, clean, secure. People are quite willing to talk too.

Yes, I am not sure I am comfortable remaining in the home of kidnappers.

I remain, however, without any way to pay for a room.

[A somewhat philosophical shrug.]

Do they say anything interesting?

You can get away with your first night or two unpaid, but after that a bit of coin is only polite. [They may have been brought here unwillingly, but there were people native to the world and they needed to get by somehow.]

The usual gossip about town. Who's seeing who, new arrivals, strange going ons. Remarkably unhelpful so far, but at least they aren't silent.

Of course.

[She smiles a bit.]

Everyone I have met seems to be human, or at least to resemble humans. I'm sure my arrival will provide plenty of gossip.

[A shrug.]

Does no one around here know anything about their own homeland?

Their own homeland? I'm sure, or at least the ones that aren't natives here. I suppose questions about home isn't asked that much, for whatever reason.

I was actually thinking of the locals.

The locals get remarkably close-lipped about the world. Recent rumors, sure, but history? No luck there so far.

Considering I've been called a hero and a champion at least a dozen times by more than one person, it seems strange they don't want to say anything about their land. Especially if I'm supposed to help them save it.

In fairy tales, the regular people never do anything to help the hero of the tale. Everyone has their role - baker, innkeeper, washer, groom - and they keep to that role.

I'm inclined to believe this world operates on similar rules.

That makes no sense. You're trying to say this world is...what? A fiction?

Possibly steeped in fiction. Though what's to say what is real in one world isn't fiction in another?

How is that even possible?

Parallel universes.

Theoretically possible, but that doesn't explain the indifference of the locals. Such a response can't have evolved naturally; it's counter-productive to survival, in the long term, isn't it?

And even if parallel universes exist, crossing between them would be...well. Not impossible, I won't say that, but incredibly difficult. On a scale beyond anything even imagined before now, in a practical sense. The Protheans never even began work on anything like this; there's no records, no evidence.

I doubt the Reapers have even considered such an ability.

[A pause, as she fiddles with something on her arm, a sudden orange glow on her face. After a moment, she's frowning, deeply.]

And now my omni-tool is hardly functioning at all.

Magic keeping everyone in an indifferent state? Something in the water? [She's mostly teasing, but hey, in a world like this? Viable options.]

What would you say if this is the second world outside of my own I've found myself pulled into? And that in the previous world I was in, there were many people that were considered fictional in one world while quite real themselves.

I'm not sure I'd be willing to accept that at face value.

It is, however, a part of my life story, incredulous as it may seem. I don't mind talking more about it if you want to know more, but not over the orb.

[A faint smile.]

[A crazy woman is less useful, but can still prove of value...if you know what kind of crazy she really is.]
