James wrinkled his nose. Well be that way, you deformed moose. He got over it quickly when her question distracted him. He climbed to his feet and shook his robes one last time in case any spiders had decided to investigate.

"I do. That makes me one of those heroes everybody in town's so excited about." Too damn excited if you asked him.

"Are they still?" she asked, happy to steer the subject away from the orbs themselves. "They grumble much. I wonder if they truly care to be rescued at all."

"Every day it's some new bullhonkus." He eyed her. Was she a hero too? She seemed too intelligent to be a native. "King's as useless as ever. I don't see how he hasn't been assassinated yet."

He knew there were wizards in the land far stronger (and maybe even grumpier) than he was.

"And I'm surprised some idiot hasn't run you ragged just to make a fancy doorstop out of that." He nodded towards the horn on her head.

She enjoyed the humor in his commentary until he said that.

"I am, too," she admitted, dropping her gaze but for a moment. "We are thought of as nuisances here, unicorns. I have not seen or heard of any hunts among the people."

How unfair it was, for Sundrop to have been given this pardon, but not her sister. Moonsong was far more deserving of it than she.

"Let's hope it stays that way." James lifted a brow. "Nuisance? How? Shit, if you were in my world they'd build a palace around you or something."

Or just ship her off to the FBI. But he didn't tell her that part. He had a little decency in him.
