Day Change: the 12th of Rebirth's Height
Today is the 12th day of the Height of the Season of Rebirth in the 137th Year Since the Wall Fell.
The wind has picked up, bringing a colder breeze (and much grumbling of the locals!) Rumors have begun circulating of a shadowy figure lurking just outside the edges of the town, vanishing before anyone can get a good glimpse of it, the feeling of something hovering just behind them but vanishing before they can even turn. Older residents are scoffing at this, saying it's not nearly close enough to the New Moon for that sort of rubbish and will give the snake eye to anyone who claims to have encountered this hovering cold presence.
Other rumors include that of a unicorn in human form (complete with the horn on it's head!) having been spotted walking through the town, leading some to wonder if the town has become the waring ground between the unicorn and the force behind the coldness. (The older residents grumble that it's probably the blasted unicorn bringing the cold, stupid bloody things with their sparkling and their purity and their making off with young maidens and why does nothing supernatural ever want to ravish them any more, the ungrateful things!) Anyone who looks at all different than the normal townsperson will be accosted and pestered and questioned if they are that unicorn and why don't they go off and prance in the forest and stop bringing the cold with them, lousy bloody unicorns! The maidens and similarly silly young lads will have a different bent on their quest and will be testing to see if said hero that they are bothering can tell if they're still virginal and oh with that unicorn around being such a bother, won't you come take care of that pesky virginityso they can brag to their friends that they bagged a other worldly hero.
On a more serious note, there seems to be more rumblings and grumblings coming from the direction of the two faced forest. Rumors spread like wildfire about the epic battle of the dragon and demon that lead to the ground being charred as far as the eye can see! Stories of a Will-o'-the-wisp lurking in the trees have also risen up, and one of the woodsmen has refused to go out into the forest after a close encounter with.... something. The poor man was so shaken he won't speak a word or come out of his home.
To try and calm his people's fears, the King will be holding audiences today, hearing all grievances and troubles and assuring his people that he's on it. Any heroes still in town are encouraged to attend and give status reports and be send on new errands!
