Hello? [ Alanna gazes steadily into the orb with the practice of someone who does this sort of scrying often. ]

I am Sir Alanna, of Pirate’s Swoop and Olau. Although my guests have assured me they haven’t the slightest idea of where either of those or even Tortall is.

I know his Majesty the King is in charge here, but I’m more interested in our fighting population. [ She says ‘our’ not to claim it as hers, but to emphasize that she intends to be a part of it. ] How are you organized? More importantly, when and where do you train together?

From what I gather, the bulk of them are stationed outside of the kingdom.

So we're left to our own devices, then, to face threats the king's forces should be trained to counter. [ There's nothing quite like an inefficient commander. ]

[brosif]

[Oh, Sif likes this one, and there's a slight shift to her posture indicating as much.]

The king and his advisers saw fit to place all of their hopes in the hands of enchanted books. I do not expect that they will be much help.

[shorterinperson]

Fine then. We'll simply have to do it ourselves, now won't we? [ This is both frustrating and invigorating. As much as she dislikes being in command, Alanna loves having something useful to do. ]

We'd better gather our forces as soon as possible and begin training to work together. Don't you think? [ Don't make her do this alone. ]

[brosif]

[Sif's nod -- curt, and borne of a lifetime of drills, says one thing: her new acquaintance will have someone else to shoulder the burden.]

I agree, though I would caution you -- not everyone here...if the books aimed to chose to heroes, they may have cast too wide of a net.

I am leading an expedition to the forest tomorrow, to investigate the thorns that grow there. Would you accompany me?

An expedition? One man has already left to investigate. I told him I would meet him there as soon as I could arrive on horseback.

Only the two of you?

[shorterinperson]

It was better than letting him go alone. I had no idea you were planning a similar trip. [ Another symptom of the lack of command. ]

[brosif]

Indeed. I would offer to accompany you, but I'm afraid there are other potential threats that I must tend to.

May I ask that you keep me informed of the results of your trip?

[shorterinperson]

Of course. Communication is key when you've got soldiers running about all over the place.
