I am Sir Alanna, of Pirate’s Swoop and Olau. Although my guests have assured me they haven’t the slightest idea of where either of those or even Tortall is.

I know his Majesty the King is in charge here, but I’m more interested in our fighting population. [ She says ‘our’ not to claim it as hers, but to emphasize that she intends to be a part of it. ] How are you organized? More importantly, when and where do you train together?

Um... there isn't much of one, at least yet. Most of us have only been here a few days, if that...

As of yet, there seems to be no organized training outside of the kingdom's own forces. Which are clearly lacking, given that we're all here.

Organizing our own numbers is a fine idea.

I think the King has a small army but I have been told many of the troops are on the front line trying to keep the thorns at bay.
I don't know that they have very much time for training.

There's no organization at all?

We'll have to do something about that, then. What of the kingdom's forces?

And the rest of you do what? Sit around and chat?

I don't know what the others are doing. I decided to leave the castle and have a look around the countryside.

[Eagle is not very good at just sitting around. ]

At least somebody's doing something.

Tell me, what exactly does the king expect of us?

He wants us to fix all of his country's problems with no real direction or information about what those problems are.
That is apparently why we were brought here. Everyone keeps saying we should be their 'heroes'.

[shorterinperson]

And yet we've no order of command, organization, or even the appearance of working together. [ Just so she knows what she's got to work with. ]

It is a very sad state of affairs. But, it is difficult to decide anything with the very few facts we have been given. I'm sure everyone must be very confused right now. There is no harm in allowing them to find their feet first.

Maybe once I return from seeing the thorns I will have a better idea what to do myself.

[That is what he hoped to find anyway. ]

You intend to go alone?

It would be more correct to say, I already went alone.

[He does have a tendency to do that, head off into battle by himself. ]

I left the castle a few days ago.

Would you be opposed to some company? I've never much liked castles and I could use the time to get accustomed to my new horse.

Not at all. Since you can ride a horse you might be able to catch up to me before I can make it all the way to the front and if not we can always meet up there.

I would really enjoy the company either way. The villagers are very nice but a...

[Clingy, pushy, or too formal given the person's nature. ]

It would be nice to speak with some one in the same situation.

And it would be nice to get a better sense for our situation. How far away are you now?

If the directions I received are correct I should be nearly through the farmland. Beyond that there is supposed to be a town where the majority of the soldiers are staying, near the thorns. We could meet up there?

That should work. And I can send you a message if I get held up. It shouldn't be more than a day's ride or two if all goes well.

It means that I'm a knight, girl or no.

So we're left to our own devices, then, to face threats the king's forces should be trained to counter. [ There's nothing quite like an inefficient commander. ]

Girl's can be knights? [She says this with genuine curiosity]

Not yet, not without hiding who they are... But soon. [ Jonathan can't keep saying 'no' forever. ]
