Day 8 - Introduction [Open Log]

Characters: Steve Rogers
Open? Open
Where: A road that Steve hopes will lead to civilization
When: Morning on Day 8
What: Steve tries to find out where exactly he woke up this time.
Warnings: None that I can think of

Steve was beginning to wonder if waking up in strange places was becoming a habit for him. Though not as disorientating as waking up to find out that almost seventy years had passed since he was last conscious, finding himself in a meadow instead of his Brooklyn apartment with no memory of how he’d gotten there had still been unnerving.

As soon as he’d accepted that initial shock, he’d started searching for some sign of civilization, eventually finding his way to a dirt road and picking a direction at random that he hoped would lead to somewhere where he could find out what was going.

Maybe he should have taken a less conspicuous route, but if his kidnappers wanted to hurt him, they would have done so already. They wouldn’t have given him a battered set of ragtag armor or the white horse that calmly followed behind him. And they wouldn’t have let him keep his shield.

So he kept to the dusty track, wondering what he’d woke up to this time.

“See that you don’t.” A keeper of War, Sif could not help the edge that crept into her smile. He did look able to fight.

“I see you were left without the introduction. This kingdom is under attack by an army of thorns, that swallows everything in its path and is slowly creeping closer still to the kingdom’s center. The king and his advisors – most of whom I have not met –sent the books out in search of heroes that might save the kingdom.”

That they didn’t necessarily get heroes in return was a fact that could be saved for later.

“At least, that is what I have been told.”

"Something like that. I was going through a collection of used books myself." More specifically, Loki's books. But she'd spoken with the man enough to know that whatever his intentions were, having Sif here was definitely not one of the..

"When I initially came here, I confess that I thought it all a trick. But here we all are. Against an enemy no one has any idea how to defeat."

"Perhaps you were meant to have it," she suggested, her own thoughts on destiny still very much in question. "Or perhaps it was a byproduct of the spell."

She turned towards the mountains, very small in the distance.

"No. We know that they respond to attack, but that is all we know. At this point, most of the king's army is standing post at their border."

“Very poorly, from what I gather. But I’ve only been here one day.”

Still, if they were in such a position to try measures as desperate as kidnapping, Sif couldn’t imagine that the army was doing its job. She directed her gaze towards Steve’s ensemble.

“Are you a knight, then?”

"I'm a Prince," she said, with no small hint of challenge in her tone. It was not how she chose to greet the others trapped in her situation, but here it was her title regardless. Not princess. Not maiden. Prince. She'd earned the right to bear arms in Asgard, and she would earn her place here as well.
brosif: oh hey bro! (Hark!)

By not objecting, Steve passed Sif’s unwritten test. She laughed at the question, shaking her head.

“Absolutely not. I follow—” One of them. Not two. She falters a bit, but presses on, cheerfully enough. “—I follow the crown prince on his mishaps. That is more than enough responsibility.”

“What of you? Are you a knight, back home?”

The comment about his men brought a more somber look to Sif's face, however momentary. Excepting Loki -- and his status was too unclear to count -- she didn't know how long she would be separated from her friends. It was not a thought she relished.

Moving on, brightly, she nodded. A fellow soldier. This was good.

"I was in a similar situation. My comrades and I were to set out on an expedition. The night took me before I could join them."
