I finally made it to one of the small towns near West Haven, well, town might be a bit of a poor description. It is a very small grouping of houses no more than three families live here. But as some of you were very interested in helping the King with West Haven I thought I should tell you what I learned from the people here.
Most were surprised to learn that West Haven was so nearby. They had heard something had happened there but they didn’t seem to know where West Haven actually was. One older gentleman flat out told me there wasn’t any place like that. He seemed very convinced of it even if his granddaughter was not--…

[Suddenly a girlish squeal interrupts what ever Eagle was saying. ]

Did you really run off with the milkmaid!?

Eh? What?

No, he didn’t run off with the milkmaid! It was the Knight who ran off with the milkmaid and broke his heart!

What milkmaid?

[A third voice chimes in with those of the other two girls. ]

Yer both wrong, he left the King’s service to look for his long lost sister…

But, I don’t have a sist…--

I don't doubt that they have..! [[a small laugh]] I've been trying to avoid being close enough to hear any, though.

That might be a wise idea! I had no idea they would be so interested in rumors like that.

Maybe I should start a few instead of having them all be about me.

But wouldn't that just add to the problem?

Perhaps, but they would be troubling some one else.

[Eagle chuckles, clearly not seriously considering doing this to anyone. ]

Aaa, but if you did that and that person had the same thought, there'd be no end to it! Unless you started rumors about the people starting rumours...

If I knew who it was who was starting all of these rumors that would be a fine idea. It couldn't hurt to give that person a little taste of this.

I think it's the person who keeps putting those list of them up on the board in town... Though I really don't know anything about them, or even who they are!

I thought it might be that person, but I have never heard who they really are either.
Sadly the people in this world don't seem to have any better news system in this land at all. They don't even bother to check their facts before telling people things.

That's not very different than anywhere else, I'd think.

Rumors always exist, that is true, but the complete lack of reliable information is something unique to this world.

[Some one is missing his data feeds and news reports from home. ]

Really? Even back home, you couldn't always find out what had gone on... [[Goodness knows half the things that went on the network sure as anything weren't covered by the papers... and not everything resolved on the network!]]

You didn't have news reports? I know even they are not always entirely reliable, but they are usually better than rumors and bulletin boards. More easily updated too.

Un, but they never really covered the important things... [[heck, even the Domino papers never covered the right things!]]

They didn't? How sad. It must have been difficult to find out what was going on.

Sometimes, yeah. Never really figured out who to ask to find somethings out.

Asking everyone until the answers finally present themselves seems to be the only way to do things here too.

Almost the same way you'd expect to find an RPG, only without the helpful cues of who to ask and what to say.

I don't really know that I would compare this to a game. For instance we don't know who the enemy is. In games you are usually able to figure at least that much out.

Not from the start! Some games you don't even find out you have an enemy until the mid point!

No? You must have different kinds of games on your world that are popular. In most of the games I can think of there usually is the implication that there is an enemy. Unless it is a party game of some kind.

Some games just start out with quests, going to get a specific Item from a holy place, finding out what's causing trouble in a near by town, going to get a great treasure, something like that. It's only when you start that first quest that you run into the enemy for the game, or his minions!

Now I see what you mean. This does seem to be that kind of situation.

No one appears to have any real idea what is going on.
[Loki had mentioned the fight between order and chaos, but that really hadn't explained why things were askew or what had caused them to be that way. ]

It does leave you unsure what you should do.

Un.. [[he nods, enthusiasm fading]] I guess all we can do it try and find that out, until things are reveled more.
