I finally made it to one of the small towns near West Haven, well, town might be a bit of a poor description. It is a very small grouping of houses no more than three families live here. But as some of you were very interested in helping the King with West Haven I thought I should tell you what I learned from the people here.
Most were surprised to learn that West Haven was so nearby. They had heard something had happened there but they didn’t seem to know where West Haven actually was. One older gentleman flat out told me there wasn’t any place like that. He seemed very convinced of it even if his granddaughter was not--…

[Suddenly a girlish squeal interrupts what ever Eagle was saying. ]

Did you really run off with the milkmaid!?

Eh? What?

No, he didn’t run off with the milkmaid! It was the Knight who ran off with the milkmaid and broke his heart!

What milkmaid?

[A third voice chimes in with those of the other two girls. ]

Yer both wrong, he left the King’s service to look for his long lost sister…

But, I don’t have a sist…--

…who was kidnapped by river pirates and taken to a land where the sun never shines due to a curse a wizard placed on the land.

[The fantastical rumors of the Schwanheim town bulletin board have made their way here at lightening speed. ]

Some how these people seem to have developed some strange ideas.

I don't think I have even met a milkmaid!

I guess talking about us gives them something to do.

[Going incognito is a very good idea. It might even be safer that way.]

You must have returned from that little trip safely? Have they begun saying anything about that?

I don't doubt that they have..! [[a small laugh]] I've been trying to avoid being close enough to hear any, though.

That might be a wise idea! I had no idea they would be so interested in rumors like that.

Maybe I should start a few instead of having them all be about me.

But wouldn't that just add to the problem?

Perhaps, but they would be troubling some one else.

[Eagle chuckles, clearly not seriously considering doing this to anyone. ]

Aaa, but if you did that and that person had the same thought, there'd be no end to it! Unless you started rumors about the people starting rumours...

This is not a surprise. West Haven, after all, doesn't exist any longer, either.

It doesn't? So you all managed to solve what ever the problem was?

The problem was that we were lured in.

We had figured that out before I left. Did you learn anything new after that?

If by 'learn more' you mean 'meet the creator of West Haven'.

And learn, in a way, the cause of the thorns.

Those kinds of things definitely count as 'learning more'.

So, what is the cause of the thorns and why were we lured out there to West Haven?

I think she was curious.

As for the thorns: chaos. Encroaching against order.

This 'she' you mentioned... that is all she said? Not what the cause of the chaos was?

That still isn't very much to go on.

That really must have been a surprising thing to hear! Not something you would have expected in an innocent orb post.

In this case, nether did I. Apparently some one assumed that must have been the reason I did not chose to return to the castle.

Will you be returning with your mysterious milkmaid?

I would have to actually meet one first.

[Eagle chuckles before saying the next part in a more serious tone. ]

Once I look around a bit I might end up returning. I had to try to find out for myself what was really going on here.

That the people here are very friendly.

[Eagle had only just started looking around. It hadn't even been a day since he began this little walkabout of his, so he really hadn't been able to discover very much yet. ]
