Log, day 3

Where: the house behind the smithy
When: 3rd day of the middle of spring

Faolan batted the now-silent orb around like a marble while he waited for Momiji to show up. They would find him some clothes, and then some food, and maybe he would be old enough to cook something. Faolan was only 10, and Hawk said he had to have someone with him to use the stove.

He perked up as he started to smell a bunny. Bunny? It was getting closer, too. Maybe he could catch it. Hawk would be so proud of him. He slunk up to the door, his orb rolling under a chair as he stopped paying attention to it.

When the bunny seemed to be right outside, he flung the door open and pounced.

Faolan thought about it, eyes wide. "Hawk's mutti," he said finally, feeling that that really summed everything up.

"Your Großmutter then?" Momiji smiled, watching the eggs fry.

[greatsquirrelhunter]

The thought had apparently never occurred to Faolan, whose face lit up as he considered it. "Yes!" he agreed after a moment.

Momiji laughed at the boys enthusiasm. "Do you like being here?"

[greatsquirrelhunter]

"Yes," Faolan answered. "Hawk likes being blacksmith and Faolan can run around."

[whatmuttiforgot]

"You don't want to go back to your old home?"

[greatsquirrelhunter]

Faolan thought about it for a long moment. "Doesn't matter," he decided. "No Pack at home. Mutti gone. Just Hawk. Here have Snow too."

"Pack?" Momiji asked, moving away from the stove to look for plates. "I think it's nice you're happy here."

[greatsquirrelhunter]

Oh! He said something he shouldn't have! Faolan bit his lip, trying to think of how he could explain without really explaining. He was probably silent far longer than he should have been, and he missed Momiji's search for plates or he would have helped.

Momiji turns around from his search at the boy's lack of reply. "Faolan?"

[greatsquirrelhunter]

Oh, he'd been found out. Faolan whimpered, moving closer to try and change the subject by begging for petting.

Probably not the best change of subject, but at 10 it was all he could think of.

Confused, Momiji placed his hands on the boy's head. "Hey, what's wrong?" He patted his hair, crouching to the child's level.

[greatsquirrelhunter]

Faolan snuggled in, arms snaking around to hug Momiji.

"Faolan said something wrong," he said sadly. "Not supposed to talk about Pack. Just family."

[whatmuttiforgot]

Momiji doesn't mind the hug, in fact he wraps his arms tightly around the boy. "That's okay. I won't tell that you said anything, okay?"

Faolan smiled up at him. "You are nice," he said, nuzzling against him.

Momiji giggled. "Thank you. You're nice too."

[greatsquirrelhunter]

Faolan was quite happy to be called nice, and to have made a friend. Even if Momiji inexplicably smelled like a rabbit.

He wriggled happily and dashed off to find plates.

Momiji, both a little confused and amused by the boy, returned to cooking a meal for the two of them.
