Dream the Fourth : GHB8 [Orb]

[[The image from the orb is rather white and blurry, with only the vague outlines of shapes visible. Someone's thrown a sheet over it, it would seem.]]

I can't find Aralu or Hawk anywhere. Hawk's mom's gone too.

[[a slight pause. He really really doesn't like having to do this...]]

...and I can't work the stove in this stupid place.

[[Or do much of anything else with his back like it is.]]

[[and as a courtesy, Shin pulls back the sheet covering the orb. He's still in bed, so it's a bit of a disorienting view.]]

Shin. Nice to meet you, even if the situation kinda sucks... [[he sighs softly]]

...and I probably will. He's a lot more hyper than Kim... and there's no way I can keep up with him at all. [[He gives a wry, self deprecating smile.]]

[Selene inclines her head at the orb.]

That seems to be the rule of introductions, around here.

[A moment where she considers what questions to ask, if any. A breath, and a slight smile.]

Is it just the two of you, now?

Yeah. Hawk's mom and Aralu went too. It's like he just lost his whole family... [[And did Shin know how that felt... poor kid.]]

[Selene does, too. She's quiet for a minute.]

I'll speak with some of the servants here at the castle. I'm sure they know people in the town who might be willing to help with meals and the like for at least a few days.

Ir is for a child their kingdom kidnapped, after all. I'm sure I can talk them into it.

[yumemi_no_ou]

[[He nods]] He has a bunch of friends here too, right? He's gonna need someone to cling to and run around with. I can only do half of that...

I'm pretty sure the boy runs himself around, at least some of the time. I'll try to carch Kay and a few others, see if we can find anyone else to to help out. Do you have any friends in the city, dear? Anyone who might be willing to help out around the house?

[Selene purses her lips, making little noises in the back of her throat. After a few moments if thought, she sighs.]

How much of the house is removed from the smithy? Is it full of tools and dross and whateve else?

[Because iron tools do not sit well with her.]

[[A bit of a smile there]] All of it. Across the river and almost as stupidly far away are you can get from it walking for how close it is otherwise. The other place was on the second floor... [[which is why there was no way he could stay there.]]

[[and the smile fades and he shrugs.]] And I haven't exactly been to social... But someone should be coming by...

I see. Probably safer that way. Wouldn't want fires to spread.

[She shrugged.]

And tomorrow? Next week?

[[Shin was quiet a long moment, not looking directly at her.]]

I don't know. I'll figure something out. Or just say fuck it and let this body die and just go living in the Dreaming. [[he shrugs]]

[She'll consider that for a while.]

Sugar, even if that was an option back home, are you so sure that it will work here?

Dreaming works the same here as back home. The only difference is that it's so fucking empty here that I could wander in it for months before finding someone outside of this stupid town that actually has a real Dream. [[Sulk sulk sulk. Part him, he's being cranky]]

[She looks around herself, not at the orb, for a minute.]

Doesn't sound like it'll work out so well, then, does it?

[She looked at the orb.]

And if you die here, there's no coming back.

[[an uncomfortable moment of quiet]]

...about as well as anything else does in this place.... [[it's almost a mutter]]

Well, I can't say I can argue well with that.

[She sighed.]

But it would be rather lonely, wouldn't it?

[Wolves don't much care for being lonely.]

No more than it is now.

Maybe. But around here, Sugar, you can change that.

It's the same people if I'm awake or asleep. Unless I want to talk to those bubble headed idiots who like saying crap that doesn't make any sense, I'm better off in the Dreaming.

[[He seems to realize how sharp his tone has gotten and grimaces, looking to the side.]]

Sorry. It's just... this place sucks. It sucks a lot.

[She laughed, softly, and shook her head.]

When I first arrived, I almost bite the ar...head off of one of the guards. I'm not very good with surprises.

But they aren't always bad.

Well, Sugar, that doesn't mean you should give up. Because when you do, it'll be worth it.

There's only ever been one surprise that's been worth everything miserable that lead up to it. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen again here....

[She sighs.]

Sorry, it's... People always tell me crap like that like it's going to magically make things better. Having hope means that your hopes can get crushed. If you don't expect anything good, you won't be disappointed and if something good happens, it's a happy surprise, you know?
