Rebirth Decline 7 - Orb 4

[ Alanna, having returned from her magical adventure in the Old City, sits in the tavern. ]

I have been here nearly a month. In that short time the moon shattered into a million pieces, a curse put half the girls in the village to sleep, a horrible beast threatened the town, and the thorns have started moving faster. On top of that, there have been two celebrations, neither of which ended particularly well. We've accomplished much, but we haven't made even a dent in the thorns.

I miss my husband, my children, my home. If we ever want to be free of this place, we need to focus on the matter at hand.

We need a plan.

Spy work. My husband's specialty, I never did get the hang of it. You talk to people, and watch, and wait, and... that sort of stuff.

It would not do to see a friend drinking alone. So when Sif sees that Alanna is in the tavern, she heads there rather than respond.

She takes a seat at the counter, and orders a round for the both of them.

"I have some news that may encourage you."

[shorterinperson]

Alanna raised an eyebrow, though she couldn't help but smile a little. It was good to have friends in a place like this, people you could trust.

"What sort of news?"

[brosif]

Sif smiles at Alanna, brightly. It is exceedingly rare to have good news, in a place like this.

"We have a weapon now that is capable of damaging the thorns. I have seen it with my own eyes."

[shorterinperson]

She tried to contain her excitement and temper it with caution, but her eyes were sparkling with it.

"How does it work?"

[A message is written down in a notebook and held up in front of the orb.]

Have there been many expeditions out to the thorns? What do we know about them?

[Video]

Not many. All we know is that they are alive, and they want to eat everything.

Anything been able to stop them or slow them down so far?

[halfwitch]

You're a mom? I didn't know that.

[shorterinperson]

Two sons and a daughter, back home.

[halfwitch]

How old?

[assiduous]

[ a quick exchange with korra, off the orb, and mako decides to opt in and tell her about their plans. kind of. ]

If the trouble's because of a spirit, Korra should be able to take care of it when we head out there.

[ HOPEFULLY ]

[shorterinperson]

So long as it's the sort of spirit she's familiar with.

[assiduous]

[ a shrug ]

She's the Avatar.

A dent? Nonsense, Sir Alanna; I dented them myself not three days ago.

[shorterinperson]

Are you Sif's friend, then? She's only just told me. [ And Alanna looks much happier for the news. ]

[thoreal]

Did she? [He seems surprised.] Yes, Sif and I are old friends.

[sadkitty]

But, um... what can we do? That we haven't tried so far.

[Hastily:]

Not that I don't think it's a good idea! I'm just not very good at plans. Or anything.

[shorterinperson]

What we need is more solid intelligence.

[streamlines]

I want to get home, too. If it were just the moon, or a beast, then maybe I'd have a better idea of what should be done, but I don't even know where to begin with crossing worlds. I have trouble enough just making contact with them. What kind of plan do you suggest?

[shorterinperson]

One that would involve knowing the thorns' weaknesses, for a start. From there... I haven't a clue.

[streamlines]

They're plants. I know they're not quite the same as normal thorns, but they couldn't differ too much, right? What have you tried?
