Why do none of the inns in this place ever have more than one room available?

[so, korra's been in schwanheim for a few days now, and she and her companion—whom some might remember from their orbs a couple days ago—have been running into a rather interesting snag... nightly. she hasn't used the orb herself before, but she's seen it used, so it wasn't too difficult to figure out.

mako's busy reading a map behind her, probably trying just not to listen, but he's there. just two alone people. together. alone.]

I mean, no matter where we go, every single night there's been some reason we can't have more than one room even though we're paying the price of two. These yokels just keep scamming every group that comes along!

[ mako glances up from his map a few moments after, charcoal stick in hand from the translated names he's been carefully writing in on the map with a charcoal pencil— it's not the best map available, so there's plenty of open space for writing, it's just. mako's not the best at... writing. yanno. (YET SOMEHOW THEY PICKED HIM TO GIVE MOST OF THE READING SPELL OR SOMETHING idk korra why aren't you helping a bro out here) but. ANYWAY.

I'd take it as a fair trade off if they had running water — if this is their capitol, just imagine what the sticks'll be like.

It's like we got set back about a hundred years with the technology.

[lowering the orb for a moment to glance at him]

We don't have running water at the South Pole, though. [I'M ASSUMING??] It's not too bad. You get used to it.

[ mako shrugs a bit, and puts his charcoal pencil down, tipping back onto two of the chair's legs. MAKO YOU HOBO ]

What's it like? The South Pole.

Really different from Republic City. [a smile tugs at her mouth, just a bit] Things aren't so close together. I lived on a compound with the White Lotus for most of my life, but the Tribe lives in a village—just a few igloos, nothing high off the ground. Only a few places have electricity. We rely a lot on the sea for food, so most people know how to hunt and fish when they're really young. And everyone knows each other.

Maybe you could try spending a night outside. It's rather nice to spend a night outside looking at the stars.

...I hadn't really thought of that. I've never spent a night without a roof over my head.

Yeah, I know we could, but if we stayed we wouldn't be able to do anything or learn anything more about where we are for ourselves.

Isn't that what we're here for, though? Helping. "Championing" people. Even if we're trying to get home, I don't think we can help much if we don't know anything about either the situation or the people themselves.

No. The first time the innkeeper didn't tell us it was non-refundable until after we'd already paid, and the other times there've supposedly been full rooms or problems with the inn.

Something like that would have never been allowed in my family's inns. It's bad business.

Well, then I'd love to stay at your family's place. Sounds like they know how to treat guests.

It sounds like a conspiracy. I have never heard of those inns being entirely filled except for special occasions.

What would be the point of a "conspiracy" like this, anyway?

The local villagers all like to play at matchmaking. I suspect that might be what they have in mind for you and your friend.
