Open Exploration: The Old Capital.

Where: The Old Capital
When: RD6, all day
What: The Hero of the Mountains has come and gone from the Old Capital, just passing our heroes on the way. Time to explore the city in her aftermath?

On the surface, the Old Capital looks much like Schwanheim, only without the two rivers flanking the castle. It's much smaller, the houses father apart and older looking that the more crowded capital, and far more ordered. It has the feel of a city that was planned out. The castle stands in the center, simple, yet impressive, navy blue banners flapping from the the towers that grace each corner, acting as gateway to the 4 wide streets that slice through the circular town like the spokes of a wheel, dividing it into sections. One quarter is the market and craftsman district, the road leading to the castle lined with stalls and merchants with goods on blankets, side streets winding down towards the less sightly businesses. Flanking it on both ends are two housing districts, the smaller homes closer to the market, getting larger as they head for the 4th district, full of large mansions and an impressive church.

There's a large clock tower in the market district that matches the one back in Schwanheim, and a bulletin board much the same.

The clock is stopped, the board blank, and there is an eerie feeling as if something is just... missing. A lack of bird song. A lack of breeze. An odd feeling of stillness, almost as if one were walking through a ghost town even though there are still people about their daily chores as if nothing's wrong.

At the very edge of the barrier, a ghost lingers - arms folded, foot tapping, regarding the obstacle with the critical eye of someone stumped. He'd gotten a few respectable feet in, but by then it had felt like being stuck in the bottle again. At that point, Giles had quickly retreated, with the air itself feeling as though it were shoving him back outside, so much so that he'd actually stumbled upon reaching the open air again.

Perhaps magic might serve him better...or perhaps turning himself invisible, which in the past has at least served to make it easier for people to pass through him.

A light whistle cuts through the air accompanied by the rhythmic clop of hooves. Ginia rides in on her horse, drawing him to a halt and dismounting. She gives him another fond pat on the neck before walking over to Giles' side, offering him a soft smile.

/So. Ghost town,/ she remarks lightly, her attention on the castle.

"I'm not sure about that. I, um, I thought that a ghost town would be a bit...friendlier." Giles looks around somewhat sadly. Being actively ignored and overlooked like this, as though he literally isn't present, is something that sits very wrongly with him. Ginia will know why.

"Unless you mean in the sense of a, a town that happens to be a ghost. I confess, um, th-that's a theory I've been considering."

/I admit my experience with ghost towns comes through movies, and in most movies, ghost towns are the last place you want to be. This is very... I suppose a town that happens to be a ghost is better./

She looks at the castle in the distance and the large gap of space between where they are now and where the castle is. Given how Giles is standing here and not further along, Ginia has a feeling there's a catch.

/Barrier or traps between here and there?/

"Barrier. I, um, I suppose it might count as a trap, but at the moment, it, i-it's only keeping us out." Giles looks back towards the castle with a scowl that suggests it's personally wronged him. "And, and the fact that it's keeping me out as well is...really rather alarming, honestly."

It's clear that this rankles him especially. He's a ghost. He's supposed to be able to pass through obstacles and walls and barriers, get into the dangerous and hidden places so the real heroes might know what's there.

What use is he besides that?

Ginia crosses her arms over her chest and appraises the space. A barrier that can even keep out a ghost, very interesting. Unfortunately, without the wealth of knowledge Giles has in regards to magical things, Ginia can only speculate and grasp at straws.

/If I've learned anything from you and Helios, for a barrier or spell to work, there needs to be some sort of source, and destroying or disrupting the source will break down the barrier. I suppose it won't do us much good if the source is located within the barrier itself, but maybe we should walk around, see what we can find? Maybe there's a spot that's weaker./
