Day Change: the 6th of Rebirth's Decline
It was strange when Ole Man Signchanger stopped showing up to change the sign. The only days he missed were the Hangover days, after all. When the sign wouldn't change for anyone else, everyone had just figured that the old man had bribed a wizard to make it so no one but him could change the days. Signchanger was a bitter old man, it fit his character.
So when the board was utterly blank in the morning, the towns people just assumed it was more of that same spell and went about their day as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.
Mostly. Since the normal flow of the day was slightly marred by the malfunctioning of the clock tower in the center of the market district.
The clock was part of the Old City that had been moved when the market district had been pushed out of the center when the walls had expanded. No one could remember who had built it, but it had always kept perfect time, a silent watcher over the bustling commerce of the capital. Now it ran slowly, then quickly, then stopped for a moment before starting up again. A hour passed by in a minute, only for the next to last far too long. Even the clockwork itself seemed to start and stutter, as if something giant and invisible was toying with it.
Still no word from the mountains. Or from the towns between the mountains and the former capital. Rumors from the old capital speak of nothing but the miracles that the Hero of the Mountains continues to preform. A man on the brink of death brought back to health, a home burned by fires magically restored, a dried out well suddenly back as if it had never run dry. Even the old castle itself restored to it's former glory as if the king had never left it. Rumor has that the old capital is only a rest stop of this glorious Hero of the Mountains, who is heading out to Schwanheim to request an audience with the King, something that's sent the town into quite the tizzy, daft clock aside! Surely, that Hero is the True Chosen One and those pesky thorns will soon be dealt with!
The weather man apologizes for the lack of predictions of the day's weather, his skrying methods just aren't working, it seems. Not that that's anything new, but instead of just getting wrong answers, he's getting nothing at all. So, until further notice, the weather will be just assumed to be... in existence.
