What: In the Forest is a candy house, and a cranky old witch who wants these dang heroes to get the hell off her lawn!





Deep in the Two Faced Forest, next to a lake of impossible clarity sits a small candy house. Walls made of gingerbread, decorated with hard candy that magically stays unmelted in the sun, it's picturesque and inviting. Care to knock on the door? Or just have a nibble of the gingerbread? Either way, take great care. The witch is not known for her good nature...

"Then you are a weakling, are you, little girl? For a dragon would make snort work of you."

[halfwitch]

"I'm not weak!" She shouted, stomping her feet.

[thequestgiver]

"You're a scrap of a girl with no power behind your words. You're as weak as the blades of grass!"

[halfwitch]

"You wanna bet?"

The door to the cottage finally opened, the old crone standing in the doorway, looking with an almost amused smile. "Is that a challenge, little girl?"

[halfwitch]

Gretel took a moment to think before answering, caught between her anger and old fears. Anger won. "If you think you can handle it."

Just so you know, Gretel is going to be so out classed here.

"Save your boasting, girl. I have lived hundreds of years and survived more than you could imagine. Do not think your untrained fury has any chance to reach me."

[halfwitch]

"We'll see, won't we?" She threw her head back cockily, eyes narrowed.

The witch merely stood there, watching with an almost bored expression.

[halfwitch]

"Aren't you going to do anything?"

[thequestgiver]

"You're the one with something to prove, little girl, not I."

[halfwitch]

Gretel took only a moment to assess the situation before drawing her wand and dashing forward. She pointed and fire erupted from the tip of her wand, blasting near the woman's right.

With an almost idle motion, as if she were swatting a bug, the witch gestured with her cane, causing the fire to arc back before it even got too close, sending it barreling back towards its caster.

[halfwitch]

Gretel threw herself to the ground to avoid it, hands covering her head until the heat disappeared. She pushed herself onto her elbows, an arm flailed to cast a jet of boiling water at the woman.

"Vary your tricks a little, girl!" the witch frowned, knocking the water back with her cane, causing it to break into a momentary rain in front of her. "If I can return one element, what makes you think another will work any different?"

[halfwitch]

"Aren't witches supposed to melt?" She snarled. Truth be told she didn't have many tricks, as her training had been cut short do to her master's murder. And with all that had happened here, Loki had not been able to teach her much. She knew her best spell could end any fight, but she would need to get much closer and she didn't think the woman would be kind enough to hold still while she chanted.

She jumped to her feet, scooping up a rock as she went. She cast another jet of water with one hand, and trying to use the water as cover, threw the rock as hard as she could.

"Do I look like someone who's never taken a bath?" The witch retorted, waving her cane again. The water slowed to be hanging frozen in mid air as if time itself had stopped, the rock stick with in it.

With a bit of an amused smile, the witch reached out to pluck the rock out of the air. "Smart trick," she nodded with amusement as she dropped it to the ground, the water following it soon after.

"Do you want me to answer that?" She sassed, frowning when her trick didn't work. She scooted back from the woman, eyeing her warily while she tried to think of something that could work in this fight. Gretel tried to keep the woman talking while she tried to come up with a plan. "I'm not a stupid kid you know."

[thequestgiver]

"You've challenged a witch when you have barely any magic of your own," the hag pointed out with a snort. "Unless you wish death, I can't think of much stupider things you could have done."

[halfwitch]

"Just shut up!" She snapped, crossing her arms in a huff. She could already see that she was outclassed here and while it would be a blow to her ego, she was smart enough to see that she should get out of there before anything worse happened. Clearly this was a battle that would take much more planning.

[thequestgiver]

The witch cackled, grinning. "Or what? Show me what you're made of girl, else I'll turn you to gingerbread!"

[halfwitch]

Gretel gritted her teeth, taking off to the left and shooting out another jolt of fire. She didn't expect it to hit. She just wanted to woman to stop laughing at her.

With another wave of her cane, the Witch rose up, hovering above the glut of flame. "You did better before, double your attacks, never give them time to recover!" she cackled as the arc of fire curved and started back towards Gretel.

[halfwitch]

Gretel stood her ground, countering the fire with a jet of water. Taking the witch's advice, she then threw out another shot of water, freezing it and turning it into ice shards.

"Better!" the witch cackled, reaching out to gather the attack into her hand, a swirling mass of water ice and fire. "C'mon, give it everything now, all at once! Show me what your anger can do, girl!"
