Log: Training Day

Warnings: Mild punching action, mostly.



The night before had been a rather difficult one for more reasons than one, and Ryo was glad it was a new day. He felt a bit better now that he was both away from the party atmosphere and awake and away from that dream. Moving around helped shake the overall oddness of that event, and so he was glad for the chance to get some exercise.

He didn't know if he'd actually be a decent teacher, but it was worth a shot. It hadn't taken him too long to get directions to the training grounds, and so he waited there for the kid he'd talked to at the party to arrive. Not that he yet knew the kid's name, but it had just never come up.

When Bakura arrives at the training grounds, he'll find Ryo pacing a bit as he waits next to a large straw-stuffed punching bag.

"I don't see how we're supposed to investigate that in the first place..." Ryo really didn't look happy. "I don't suppose there's anyone with a lot of magical experience that's actually not likely to try to do something crazy to us, is there?"

[shiromadoushi]

"Mmm... maybe the other White Mage?"

[somewhatpointy]

Ryo looks rather interested at that bit of information. "Who would that be?"

[shiromadoushi]

"His name is Kori and I think he lives at the monastery, that's where I always see him... I think he's the one who made the spell with the books that brought everyone here."

[somewhatpointy]

Oh, the guy responsible for bringing them all there? Clearly that was someone who was high up on Ryo's list of favorite people. And if you believed that, then he'd probably cut a real estate deal for you.

"You think he'd be able to track down the source of those dreams?"

Or send them home? Sending them home would be good...but somehow Ryo didn't think they'd get the guy to just give in like that. Perhaps he'd broach the subject if he met this Kori face-to-face.

[shiromadoushi]

"Maybe... It can't hurt to ask, right?" The worst that could happen would be some pastry in the face, right?

[somewhatpointy]

Ryo nodded. "It's worth a shot. Where is the monastery, anyway?" He was still getting his bearings in town, after all.

[shiromadoushi]

"Down the East road out of the town, not too far past the walls."

[somewhatpointy]

"Looks like I'll be paying him a visit once we're done here, then." Ryo nodded as he glanced back towards the punching bag. "You up for another try, or have you had enough for the day?"

[shiromadoushi]

"Aaaa..." Bakura faltered, rubbing the back of his neck. "It would feel right to give up so quickly..."

[somewhatpointy]

"Come on, another round, then." Ryo punched the punching bag a couple more times in an attempt to give Bakura a better example. "Watch your shoulders."

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura nodded, hesitating a moment before he carefully attempted to mimic Ryo's actions. "Like this...?"

[somewhatpointy]

Ryo nodded. "That's better. Just make sure you put some force into it, hold yourself a bit more like this..." He altered his own posture a bit, just to show Bakura. "Now, go ahead and swing."

[shiromadoushi]

It's that putting some force into it part that seems to be his downfall. With no anger or determination behind it, plus the awkward moment of remembering earlier still lingering, the force just isn't present behind it.

[somewhatpointy]

Ryo sighed. "Come on, you've got to hit it harder than that." He refrained from trying the "think of someone you're angry with" approach from earlier; he didn't want to cause any more problems that way. "Think if you were in a real fight--would that do you any good?"

[shiromadoushi]

"Aaa... probably not..." Bakura admitted, looking both sheepish and ashamed at the same time. "I'd probably just shield and run away, like always."

[somewhatpointy]

"Yeah, but there are some times when you can't run away--and what are you going to do then?" Ryo shook his head. "There are some times where you've got no choice but to stand and fight."

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura was quiet a long moment. "And I can't always depend on my magic to do it for me..." he agreed softly.

[somewhatpointy]

At that statement, Ryo really, really hoped that Bakura was better with his magic than he was with throwing a punch. "Right. Sometimes, all you've got to rely on is just your own two hands."
