Action: but you never tire of dreams

Characters: Any willing dreamers
Open? Yes
Where: In your minds
When: After the party
What: Part two of the dream plot!
Warnings:

The party went on, with the beast's head on display. A proud, twisted thing. Behind false ruby eyes, it waited. And as the music became slower and the wine less plentiful, it waited still.

Those who had gazed upon it at the ball. Those who had seen it once living in the forest. All heroes who dared to look upon its face and dream still that they would be able to live another day...

There are all sorts of ways of living. In waking. In sleep. Perhaps, now, they would find one in between.

(ooc: Feel free to keep tagging into the party post! Once your characters go home and go to sleep of their own accord, that is when the dreaming will begin. Remember, it is up to you to set up what kind of world your character is trapped in and how best to help them. Plotting post is here, make use of it!

The beast's power will wane once the bulk of the dreamers have escaped his curse. If your character was not at the party but you still want to involve them in the dream plot, that is fine! They can either help get people out or have seen the beast wandering in the woods before it was killed and have caught its attention that way.

The barrier does buy him a bit of time. The people walk right into it and then stumble back, shaking their heads and clearly dazed.

But then a red headed girl stands up. She focuses her eyes on the space where the barrier is impeding them and starts gesturing in the air, murmuring in a garbled version of Latin.

Fortunately, the coffin lid proves to be cheap plywood. It swings up with a bit of help from his magic, and Giles is revealed inside, shaken and scared and disoriented. After several deep breaths, he stares wildly up at Bakura.

"You..."

"Hurry, you need to get out of there before they bury you!" He held out his right hand as he left continued to hold the barrier best he could.

Giles takes the offer of assistance without a second thought - his grip is cold, and no pulse beats in the veins of his wrist. But he's tangible all the same, and he lets Bakura help him out of his coffin, and straightens up when he's free to take in the world around him.

Then he sees the girls, sees Willow fighting Bakura's own magic, and Giles looks ready to kill. He flings himself forward, but is stopped by the barrier from the other side. Undeterred, Giles simply resumes tryng to beat his way through, as he had the walls of his coffin.

Wait, what? Bakura stares, eyes widening, his barrier flickering for just a moment before he flings up another, one on one side to keep in, one on the other to keep out. The coldness of that grip...

No. No there was no way that...

Giles lets out a growl as he feels his efforts further impeded. Finally, losing his patience, he rounds on Bakura...and the changes to his face should tell him quite a bit.

"Let me out."
shiromadoushi: (What....?)

So this'll be the 3rd time he's had to "cure"/end an undead version of one of his friends. Poor kid.

There's a surge of utter fear as Bakura freezes in place, not from the face, but what it represents and reminds him of. For a moment, it's not Giles' face that he sees, but another, then another. Faces so painfully familiar, twisted into unnatural shapes, white and pale and unresponsive to words...

It'd happened again and he was going to have to--

His hands tensed, the white glow starting to build up more around him.

"...I can't do that."

Poor kid T_T. Giles will thank him later.

Giles draws up short as Bakura begins to summon up his power. His nostrils flare as he scents the air, his hands clench again into fists, so tightly that the claws draw old blood from his palms that oozes onto the grass.

"Magic," he growls. This time its Bakura he goes for, aiming a sharp roundhouse blow at the boy's face.

Bakura doesn't even move, a third shield forming around him on reflex as his clothing shifts, jeans and sweater melting into snow white robes edged in gold. Maybe this time would be different. Maybe this time it would work like he had hoped it would with Hiruma.... with Quatre...

But even as he hoped it... he knew it wouldn't. He didn't have the soul to transfer back...

The barrier holding the mourners back fades as Bakura's attention focuses on the man before him, eyes closing as the glow of his magic around him starts to become blinding.

"I'm sorry..." The words are almost a whisper before he flings his hand out, energy rushing forward.

"PURIFY!"

The light hits Giles in the chest before spreading out to envelope him entirely. He screams in pain because, while the soul is long gone, there's still a demon that's inside, taking up space and controlling the corpse. It's visible, for a moment, as the spell takes hold, a hideous green creature with spikes covering its skin. But it's only visible for a moment, then the magic takes hold and Giles crumbles to dust, as quickly as though he'd just been caught in the sun.

Slowly, Bakura's shoulders go slack, mage robes fading with the aura of magic. He kneels next to the small bit of dust, an exhausted look on his face.

"I'm sorry..." he near whispers again. Even with the magic of a White Mage... he couldn't always save his friends.

And he hated it.

For a second, Bakura might feel a presence just behind him, a presence recognizable from his time in the town thus far as Giles, at least in basic nature. Just somewhat lesser, fainter, far away. But still present enough to speak.

"I'm not."

Then it fades, vanishes into the ether, and Bakura truly is alone. The silence stretches on until it's broken by the sound of a gate opening with an almighty creak of rusty iron. Looking up will reveal that the cemetery gates have indeed opened, seemingly of their own accord. The town beyond is peaceful, safe, and quiet, lit by the faint rosy glow of sunrise.
