Action: Come one, come all!

Characters: ALL THE PEOPLE
Open? Yes.
Where: The Palace
When: The night of the 3RD
What: A masquerade ball and a very deep sleep.
Warnings: Part of a comm-wide plot!

The Prince Sif has felled an unknown beast, and presented its stuffed head to the King. This would be reason enough for a ball, but there are victories to celebrate. More heroes arrive every day. The kingdom was aptly defended when the forest wall fell. No one has tried to assassinate the king in several days.

All told, a good night for a party. The theme of the ball is a masquerade, and shops in town have been surprisingly (almost suspiciously) able to provide gowns and masks in ready supply.

The palace has been opened to heroes and townspeople alike, provided they can present themselves appropriately. The heroes have been strongly encouraged to attend, and those who do not come voluntarily may well be greeted with royal retainers at their doorstep, outfit and dance card in hand. Expect a very full dance card, heroes.

The banquet table is stacked full of food – roasts and cheeses, summer fruits and vegetables, rivers of wine and more ornate desserts than should be permitted in a time or war. This evening is about success – best to enjoy it.

In the center of the ball sits the beast’s head. A scaly, purple thing. Its eyes have been taken out and replaced with rubies, its mouth twisted in the same sort of anguished look on its face as when Sif killed it. There has never been a beast like this in Schwanheim before – if you like, come closer and take a look. The king is very generous with his gifts.

[ooc: The party is a LIE. Well. No, it isn’t! Enjoy the party. Your characters will be expected to wear full masquerade gear, or they will be shunted aside and dressed properly.

After the attendees go home, they will be plagued with dreams more tangible than they have ever felt. More information here]

As far as our people have been able to tell, the Thorns are only present here in our kingdom. If we could get to the Distant Lands, they might have more information, but it was the lack of hearing from them in the first place that led to the thorns discovery. [[It's said almost nonchalantly before he takes another bite of his chicken leg.]]

Just here? I see. D-Do you think it possible to ever v-visit any of these other kingdoms. M-Maybe some of us could do so f-for you? I-I mean it would help gather information and maybe even willing helpers to keep the thorns away...

[ Because he can't imagine them to stop growing and taking over other places should this one fall. But he hopes that isn't the case and he will look optimistically into the future that it won't. ]

Of course it's possible! It'll just take you days to get there! Unless you just want to go talk to the giants, but they're not the most mindful of creatures and make very little sense if you aren't trained to understand them.

[ He pauses to think for a moment. ] What a-about, ah, teleporting there? I-I'm sure that would cut traveling there much shorter. A-And I'm sure some people here have the ability... [ Helios being one such person. It was never too bad to ask at least. ] Though talking to giants seems a bit more adventurous I admit. [ He may or may not be joking about that. ]

Teleporting? My good man, if we all could do that, there wouldn't be much need for mages at all! Or heroes! [[he laughs, good naturally]]

And the only adventure to visiting the Giants is getting up those stairs to their kingdom. A big improvement on bean stalks, I must say, but all the same, it's quite a feet to climb!

I-I suppose you're right. [ This will be said a bit more offhandedly and to himself though not low enough to be unheard. ] Though teleporting to an entirely new world is something I've been interested in trying.

[ Helios can't help but laugh at that. ] Certainly is. D-Do you think they would be inclined towards helping with the thorns? M-Maybe they know something or, ah, any other creatures might. Supernatural beings usually have some sort of idea when it comes to supernatural forces. [ It's an idea at least but he's not sure how well it would work. But he can at least start somewhere. ]

I-I mean this land is just and much theirs as it is yours. I-I would imagine they would be getting worried too...

Hardly! These thorns don't have near the height to reach up to their kingdom. They're up in the sky, you know. And they're hardly supernatural! [[he grins]] They're just like very tall foreigners! Strange and hard to understand, but under all that, simply normal people like those here.
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-06-03 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
So there is a limit to where they can reach then. [ an audible hum from him. That's good to know, very good to know. He'll have to talk about this with the others then, but for now he'll sigh and lean back in his chair. ] Ah! Yes of course. S-supernatural might not have been the best choice in words. I-I suppose I'm just used to people regarding things as such in my own world. [ A light chuckle from him. ]
Giants are just normal beings with just...a bit more added height.

Quite a bit more. They're easily three times as tall as I am! [[pardon him as he grabs for another chicken leg. Can't let this food go uneaten!]]
folklorist: (Never seen anything like it)

The giants I know are about the same, really. Though you can't really tell that they're giants. Illusionary magic and all that. [ He looks a bit amused as he says that. He'll pause for a rather long minute or two considering something and all the things he's learned thus far. There's a good amount of creatures living here. Chimeras and Roc and then there was the beast whose head was eerily mounted to the wall like a trophy in a hunters trophy room. It still made him shudder looking at it. ]

Are there any dragons here? [ A silly question, he knows, but he can't help but ask. He probably knows the answer to be yes but he can't be too sure about it. ]

Of course! Off by the mountains.
