The Prince Sif has felled an unknown beast, and presented its stuffed head to the King. This would be reason enough for a ball, but there are victories to celebrate. More heroes arrive every day. The kingdom was aptly defended when the forest wall fell. No one has tried to assassinate the king in several days.

All told, a good night for a party. The theme of the ball is a masquerade, and shops in town have been surprisingly (almost suspiciously) able to provide gowns and masks in ready supply.

The palace has been opened to heroes and townspeople alike, provided they can present themselves appropriately. The heroes have been strongly encouraged to attend, and those who do not come voluntarily may well be greeted with royal retainers at their doorstep, outfit and dance card in hand. Expect a very full dance card, heroes.

The banquet table is stacked full of food – roasts and cheeses, summer fruits and vegetables, rivers of wine and more ornate desserts than should be permitted in a time or war. This evening is about success – best to enjoy it.

In the center of the ball sits the beast’s head. A scaly, purple thing. Its eyes have been taken out and replaced with rubies, its mouth twisted in the same sort of anguished look on its face as when Sif killed it. There has never been a beast like this in Schwanheim before – if you like, come closer and take a look. The king is very generous with his gifts.

[ooc: The party is a LIE. Well. No, it isn’t! Enjoy the party. Your characters will be expected to wear full masquerade gear, or they will be shunted aside and dressed properly.

"That at least is lucky!" He nodded, smiling warmly. "Though I sort of wonder, since there's magic here... there should be some way to make it easier, I'd think. Even if it's just something to make it so that you don't run out of paper." He paused, realizing that he was probably being rude about the whole thing. "Aaa- sorry!" he apologized, rubbing the back of his neck.

A magical journal that never ran out of paper, that would be a nice thing to have. Even better, a magical journal and a magical pen that never ran out of ink. Who knows, perhaps such things could be found in such a fantastic world. She smiles at Bakura and gives a gentle wave of her hand.

No need to apologize, you've done nothing wrong. Some kind of journal that never ran out of paper would be useful.

There was a relieved smile as he read that. "I could look into it. I'm not fully sure what my magic can do here, but it never hurts to try, right?" And if the other white mage could summon things from nowhere, even if it was mostly food, it reasoned that he could do something like that too, right?

I knew a world where there were journals with infinite pages. You could flip to the end of the journal and see the back, but if you flipped through, they kept on going. I suppose if it's possible in one world, it could be possible in another. Though no need to go through any trouble on my behalf.

There's a small pause as she jumps on a topic change.

You know magic?

"It wouldn't be any trouble!" Bakura assures with a grin. It'd be a challenge to figure out how to do it, a game of sorts.

"Aaa-- sort of! I can do magic, and I know I must have learned how to at some point, since there's a few things I do on reflex, but I'm not really such much about it yet," he explained a bit sheepishly.

That's very fascinating. My experience with magic has been very limited, but I ~~have~~ had many friends good with magic. A sad smile follows her written words as she makes a small correction. There was no shortage of magic in Luceti, both from people that knew it in their world, and from people, like herself, that learned some there. But that was Luceti and this was... well, she was still trying to figure this place out.

"Back home, you mean?" Bakura asked, voice softening sympathetically.

Ginia nods. Luceti may not have been where she was born, but it had become her home. While things had improved somewhat in her world, she wanted nothing more than to go back to the village of wings and the people who lived there.

I've always found magic to be interesting. Fantastic. Do you mind if I ask what you can do with it?

"Not at all!" Bakura grinned happily. "White Magic is mostly defensive or sympathetic magic, things that help and heal, shields and buffs to help your party. I'm still exploring it, since there are other things it can work it and help out, it's just tricky to figure out what without getting the idea to test it, you know?"

Ginia nods at the list, quite impressed by it. Some of it reminds her of what Helios could do, the healing and shields mostly. Overall, it's a very good set of skills to have and she's quite interested in the possibilities.

What sort of buffs can you do?

"Aaa--- Well, I can raise someone's defense, same as in Monster World," it had been one of the first things he had tried, really. "And raise their basic stats, like agility and strength and things like that."

All very useful abilities, maybe even standards as far as buffs go. Ginia's played video games or watched Erika play video games, she knows some of the fantasy world standards.

Have you considered protective barriers? Like ones to keep someone or something out or to protect against a certain element?

"Un!" Bakura nodded with a warm smile. "I can do shields pretty well, they're like a reflex!" Which is how he knew that he'd trained with his magic at some point, even if he couldn't recall it. "Mostly they're physical barriers, though, like to keep out an attack, or keep in something dangerous. I don't think I've tried doing one that only holds in or out a specific element, though I'm pretty sure I could, since it has to be similar, right?"

Good things to have. She thinks of Helios and his barriers and how useful they'd been in keeping people safe. And I'm afraid I can't say much since I'm not too versed with magic, but I imagine some kind of elemental shield would work along the same lines.

Bakura nodded. "I'll have to try it out sometime, when it's not the middle of a party," he grinned.

This may be presumptuous to write, but if you figure something out, may I see?

"Of course!" Bakura grinned happily. "I wouldn't mind it at all!"
