20th of Rebirth's Height - Orb 1

[Estelle was rather new to this, but she had no idea what was going on, nor exactly how the orb worked. Once she did, she was sitting upon the ground, the view of the town behind her clear as day.]

Hello, I'm Estellise. it's nice to meet you all. [She waves slightly at the orb, her cheery smile still placed firmly on her face.] I just arrived here, so I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

[She goes quiet after that, looking behind her, she glances at all the various shops that were closed. She didn't know why they were, but she knew it couldn't be a good thing. After a moment of looking, she turned her head back towards the orb once more.]

I hope it's not rude to mind me asking but, can someone tell me what's going on? I'll be grateful if anyone can give me any information. Thank you.

Did you have any questions in particular?

I confess, I've only been here a day or so, myself, so I only know the general situation involving why we're here and, um, what we're supposed to be doing about it.

As for why half the town seems determined to get impossibly drunk, I haven't the foggiest.

[A lot of the citizenry seem even more nervous in speaking with him than they were initially.]

Apart from, um, something about the moon.

The moon?

[Okay that was weird, but yes she had been wondering why half the town was closed and the other half... was basically getting sloshed, but that still made no sense.]

So, they are saying something about the moon? I wonder what that could be.

Something about the moon, yes. S-Something about it, um..."vanishing"? I'm not entirely certain. Didn't notice much out of the ordinary last night.

Not that I'm entirely certain what constitutes, um, "out of the ordinary". I'm afraid I've only been here a day or so myself.

...so, um, if you hear anything, I'm just as curious as you probably are.

[She smiles, she was going to make sure that no one was left out of any kind of information.]

Though maybe I can go and ask the residents more about what's going on. I certainly hope that they tell me something.

We are supposed to be the heroes around the place. It's, um, not as though we can do our jobs if they don't tell us something.

[Then this could be the beginning of a good acquaintanceship, Estelle. Even if you are kind of bugging Giles by now familiar you look.]

Of course, come nightfall, we, um, we might get a better idea of the situation, but people here seem quite against the idea of being out after dark.

...fitting, I suppose, given the general tone of the place.

[She starting to look more and more determined to help them, if they don't want them to go out at night, there must be a extremely good reason and she wants to know what.]

Maybe camping outside and keeping an eye out might help? Maybe it's something like a monster that comes out at night, scaring the people.

[She looks around quietly.]

I quite like this place, it's certainly different than what I'm use to.

It, it certainly might. Or, um, at least it might give us an idea of the situation. A monster would, um, would certainly explain things.

...I don't, um, actually need to sleep, so certainly count me in for any attempts on that front.

[He looks around as well, although the orbs show that they're in more or less entirely different parts of town.]

Different than what I'm used to, as well.

[Then, in a slightly wistful tone:] ...I do wish I could have been left where I was, though.

[Blinking for a couple of moments as what he said sinks in slightly. Doesn't need to sleep and wanted to go home, she can understand the need to want to go home, after all she was on an adventure when she arrived here, but now there were people that needed her help, she couldn't say no to them at all.]

Are there people at home waiting for you?

[It takes her a moment before she covers her mouth slightly, shocked. Maybe she shouldn't have said that]

I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry.

[Giles starts slightly, obviously coming out of his own deep thoughts. He blinks at Estelle for a minute, and then he smiles gently and waves her concerns away.]

People are, um, waiting for most of us, I would imagine. All the more reason for us to, to stop whatever's brought these thorns about, s-so we can get back to where we're meant to be.

[Even if, for Giles, he doesn't see how there's any going back. Not like this. But the fact that Estelle was softhearted enough even to ask a question like that means that Giles doesn't want to drop the extra bomb quite yet about his current ghostly state.]

Besides, I was, um, particularly fortunate. A friend arrived the day after I did.

[She nods, her eyes closing for a moment as in deep thought. Her friends were still at home and maybe wondering where she was, she knew the sooner she sorted this problem out the better. She was sent here and she was sure a hell going to help.]

You really are fortunate, to have a friend arrive a day after you did. At least you know you aren't alone.

None of us, um, really are alone, though. We might not all be on the warmest of terms with one another but, um, at the least, we all certainly have reason to assist one another.

...that's, um, that's something at least, isn't it?

[Cooperation under the threat of mutual destruction. It's a situation Giles is all too familiar with.]

[She pauses for a moment, it was true that there are people here she'd be willing to help at any given situation, but he was right, it was something.]

I guess. At least we'll be willing to help each other through the good times and bad.

As for what good times and bad actually constitute around here...well, um, I'm afraid I haven't been here quite long enough to say. I did overhear that I apparently came in the day after a mess with some cursed spindles, of course.

[It's a distinctly odd place to be, for Giles - he knows a good deal about fairy tales in general, but about this specific kingdom, he's still clueless.]

Even so. I, um, I may not be able to help out very much, but...well, I'm still willing to assist however I can.

I'm sure you'll be able to help in some way.

And I'm sure you will as well, Estelle.

Then I hope that someday in the future, we'll be able to work together.

If this town continues to go as utterly mad as it has thus far, I don't doubt we will.

[From the other side of the orb, he gives her a half bow.] Best of luck settling in, until then.

Hello Estellise! I am Tatra.

It would appear we've been brought here to take care of the problem of the thorns, although we may be called upon for any number of reasons by the king or his people.

It's nice to meet you Tatra.

[She bows slightly out of politeness more than anything.]

Thorns? What is the problem with the thorns?

[ And of course Tatra curtseys in return. It's only proper for a princess. ]

It would appear that the thorns wish to devour this land and all of its people whole.

How can a plant do that? Is it some sort of magic?

[She really is curious about these thorns now and wants to know more.]

That seems to be the case, although it isn't any sort of magic I've seen before. Perhaps one of the knights would know more.

Would you happen to know where these knights are right now?

Not right this moment. I believe Sir Alanna lives near the outskirts of town, and most of the others live in the castle.

Then I shall start my search in the castle. Thank you very much.

Hello Estellise. I am Commander Eagle Vision from Autozam. If you just arrived you must have been brought here as a 'hero' in order to save this world.

As for the shops... I'm not really sure why they are all closed today. the people here can be a little superstitious.

[Have another bow from Estelle, it's a proper way to greet someone, or at least that she knows about.]

May I ask what exactly is wrong with this world. Apart from half of the stores closed? Is someone making them pay unfair rent or something?

[Unfair rent. How cute!]

The problem they mostly complain about is the thorns. Apparently they are slowly taking over the land and they want us to stop them. Of course there seems to be no way to do that... The thorns fight back against physical force and are resistant to magic.

Thorn! Oh dear, that doesn't sound nice at all.

[She pauses for a moment before she tugs on her new white mage robes.]

Though this doesn't explain why my clothes have changed.

The thorns actually seem fairly passive, as long as you don't attack them.

[The outfit/role is one he isn't readily familiar with. ]

The locals seem to think we are all here to fulfill some kind of role. I am afraid I don't know what that outfit is meant to represent though.

If they are passive, then why do people think they'll take over?

[That didn't make sense, but it did make her curious to know more about the thorns, maybe go and investigate.]

Role? What is your role here then?

I think they are very slowly growing and taking over the land but when I saw them they really didn't do much unless they were attacked. They are a threat but not one that would quickly take over this world. At least that is the case for now. I have no idea when or if that situation will change.

It seems silly really. The people here seem to believe I am some kind of Prince even if that isn't the truth at all.
Do you know what 'role' you are supposed to be?

Do you suppose that you would ever be so kind as to show me where these thorns are? I would like to investigate them for myself.

As for my role, I don't exactly know, I just know I'm wearing robes which I don't remember wearing before. Maybe I should ask someone.

I could. It might be a wise idea to get one of the maps from the library. When you do I would be happy to mark any of the interesting places the map doesn't really have listed, including the thorns.

[While those were on the map he could fill in a bit more detail about them since he just came from there. ]

I'm sure the locals would be more than happy to tell you all about your role. You might not even have to ask them, they do enjoy rambling.

May I ask, what was it you did on your own world? Are you any good with languages?

A library? [Do you see the sparkle in her eyes, do you?] It never even crossed my mind that there could be such a place of wonder here.

What I did in my own world. Well, I was in the middle of an adventure with my friends, it was something I've never done before. It was fun and exciting. [Except a few occurrences that happened, but she's pushing that to the back of her head.]

As for languages, I had to learn a few, so that talking with people from other places would be easy.

[Oh good, she was interested in this!]

There are two that I know of. One in the castle that isn't very well stocked and one in the monastery that you might need permission from the monks to visit.

If you are good with languages maybe you could even read the books in the monastery. I have heard they are written in a strange foreign script.

[She stands there quietly, listening and staring at the orb as he explained things. So there were two places filled with books, maybe some she had never read before. Well, this was defiantly something she was interested in.]

That sounds like the books here are a must read, if you are able to. Maybe I will try.

[And if you have any luck with that foreign script Eagle might have a few 'borrowed' books she could read. Semi-evil plotting. ^,^ ]

I really enjoy reading. You can find such wondering and interesting things through a book. Though I've been told it#'s not the same as learning from experience.

No, that's probably true. You can learn a lot through books but there is something to be said for experiencing some things for yourself.

That's right and that's what I was doing before I arrived here, but I can still learn as I go.

There will be plenty of things for you to discover here too and if you manage to decipher the strange language the books in the monastery are written in I would love to hear about that.

Then, I'll try my best to figure them out.
