An audience with the King of Charisma!

As always when he's entertaining the common folk, King Erasmus had set up shop in the 2nd throne room, the one that looked like the most expensive and comfortable den in the world (and aught to, for what he paid for it!) Sitting in his plush, almost armchair like throne was the King himself, joking with a pair of farmers while his cloud of advisers tended the more serious concerns.

"What would you like to know?"

He almost answered with 'everything' but that probably wouldn't get him the answers he needed. Though he had a feeling that he wouldn't get them no matter what he asked. Well, he had gotten one important answer, but he doubted that he'd get much help with the subject of the thorns.

Start with the basics and move on from there. "What caused this to happen to the kingdom?"

"That is something we have yet to determine. We unfortunately know very little about the origin of this threat, only that it grew out of the unexplored lands to the south-east."

"What has been tried to stop the thorns and has anything worked?"

[offyougonow]

"If anything had worked, we wouldn't have called out to heroes of other worlds to come help."

Well...technically, he had a point even if that wasn't quite what he meant. "Of course, Your Highness. I misspoke. Were any of the attempts more effective than others?"

[offyougonow]

"Not in the slightest! They were all total failure."

[like_a_gerbil]

"If they can't be stopped for now, do the people in thorns' way need help being evacuated to somewhere safer?"

[offyougonow]

"With the low speed of the thorns motions, my men are more than capable of helping my people to evacuate when the time comes."

"My grandmother could out walk those things and she hasn't done more then complain in years," one of the advisers added in, gaining a few chuckles.

"Quite right," the King agreed with a grin. "What we need from you, my good man, is something that can stop those thorns in their tracks and send them back where they came from before any more people lose their homes and farms to this menace!"

It was a relief to know that no one seemed to be in danger of being killed by the thorns, though losing their homes and livelihoods could be devastating.

"I'll begin work on that today, highness." He paused, considering the questions and answers he'd heard earlier. "There is one more subject I'd like to discuss before I start. Is it true that it's possible for the heroes that were brought here to return home?" Steve was willing to stay, but his friends should have that choice. "I'll help with the thorns, but there are others that may be needed back home."

"In theory, it is true! But on speaking to our mage, it would appear that something is interfering with the way that the spell works, and his attempts to send people back to their homes have been so far unsuccessful."

[like_a_gerbil]

He nodded thoughtfully, careful to make sure that his disappointment wasn't noticeable. He'd hoped that his friends might be able to return home, but it looked like that wasn't possible yet. "I'm sure that eventually he'll be successful."

He smiled, then stood at attention as he would have to Colonel Philips, though he didn't salute like he would his late commanding officer. "If that's all, Your Highness, I'll be on my way so you can meet with the others that are waiting to speak with you."

The king nodded with a smile. "I wish you much luck on your efforts, my good man. We're all counting on you!"
