Kay, sugar, we haven't spoken in days, even though we both spend the night in the castle. I haven't scared you off, have I?

[Selene plays at hair which is hanging down over her fave, hiding half of it.]

Is there anything to do in this city other than sitting at the pub and getting a little tipsy? Because I've been informed rather sternly that such an establishment is no place for a Princess. And when the owner kicks you out, it's hard to sneak back in.

As if. You'd have to do way worse to freak me out.

Anyway, I dunno about the city, but that fat old king guy seems to want us to look at the burned-out forest. He thinks that we can somehow figure out why it burned down.

[His tone says that he doesn't think much of that.]

Oh, good. I was afraid I might have to behave myself.

[A smile touches the corner of her mouth. No, not a smile. A smirk. A very knowing smirk.]

You mean the one burned down by the Voice of the Thorns, hunting something right down through the center of the forest that, alas, didn't actually happen to reside there at the time? Quite a wasted effort, really. A rather impressive show of power to accomplish so very, very little, but I suppose some things simply don't have any patience.

Or did the other forest burn down, too?

...are you talking about the White Forest or the Two-Faced one?

[He's going to double-check before he lets himself be impressed.]

The one the went up on the new moon. Ruined the ball's afterparty, but there's no helping that, I suppose. The King and I spoke privatly regarding the fire, and I am fairly confidant it didn't manage to accomplish its goal.

It's a wonder what you can learn if you're willing to dress like a man and get a little dirty, but I'm sure you know all about that sort of thing.

[...okay, he's impressed.]

Gonna share what it was after with the class?

[golden_moon]

That ain't no fun at all.

[She laughs.]

I ain't going to talk about it over these things, but I'd be happy to share. Every princess should have a knight in which to confide, don't you think?

[At least, she'll share some of it. She's still trying to work out the rest.]

[He rolls his eyes. Kay's still not playing along.]

Yeah, yeah. Where do you want to meet?

With an attitude like that, you'll never win the favor of a fair lady of the land, young sir. And with that jawline and those shoulders, they would be so terribly disappointed.

[She's going with it, to a point, because, hey. Why not? Also, teasing teenagers. It's poor sport, but lots of fun!]

The castle's full of spies and loose tongues. And the market. Hmmm. Would you like to take a walk outside of the city? Not that the air is so terribly polluted, all things considered.

[He's starting to get used to Selene and her teasing. Kay shrugs, a little amused, a little rueful.]

Wouldn't be the first time. It'd be the third, actually.

What can I say, Sugar. You practically stink of 'bad boy'.

[Her tone is softer, though, almost apologetic. Almost.]

I'll pack a lunch? Or we can try our luck at catching rabbits.

[Depends on long (and furry) a walk you want to take, Kay.]

[Doesn't he know it though.]

Depends. You know how to cook rabbit? Because that makes one of us if you do.

[And he doesn't like to eat raw meat. Well, he does, but only in certain circumstances he doesn't want to think about. And eating raw meat makes him think about it.]

Lunch sounds great.

I can char it over a fire well enough. Especially if I find some wild thyme or something. Maybe some tubers...but that sounds like a bit of work. Why don't I just nip something from the kitchen for today?

[She doesn't mind it, if she's still got fur. Got over that a long time ago.]

Don't go to too much trouble.

Meet you by the front doors?

Oh, Sugar, it ain't work when you kiss the cook.

[She begins humming a little.]

I haven't had a picnic for ages. This'll be fun!

[He waves a hand.]

[When she finally comes to the doors, there's a basket that smells of fresh(ish) bread and some kind of poultry (pheasant, in fact). She's dressed in as simple a dress as the maids allow her to keep, and someone's put three or four flowers in her hair. As she walks up, though, she tugs one of them free and tosses it aside...which means it probably wasn't her.]
