[ See Loki. See Loki in a nature-esque background that's fairly rocky, a bit hilly, but also very generic. Could be anywhere. Could totally be a place that is not on a mountainside where one would go and seek some dragons.

See Loki's horse, dappled and dark and very skittish, at the moment. He cuts a regal figure on her, straight-backed, strong; he handles her skittish movement with an easy hand. ]

My brother -- Thor -- has arrived. I suppose you will greet him, Sif, if you have not already. To you, and to the rest who fancy themselves heroes: know that I will be watching your moves with great interest.

But I no longer count myself among you.

[ This is the closest Loki will get, at this moment, to a declaration of villainy.

[ She'd been ready to address the orb when Loki makes his announcement. Hilly, adventurous background? But she has simply a book case behind her. ]

Oh, that is a shame. Has there been an offense?

The offense is simple: I am not a hero. I will not bend myself and my ways to become one. Not for any price.

Those who have been pulled from their homes are strangers in this land before they are heroes, yes? But why separate from your brother?

[She responds to his message instintively, and it isn't until his face is back again before her that she realizes she has no idea what to say.]

This kingdom, led by an idiot, with a populace that may as well be so many gadflies -- no. Nothing is the matter. Continue on your course; no doubt you will weather the storm and find clear skies quite soon.

Of course there is a reason.

[It's not disagreement. She just wants reasons.]

[[and Bakura gives Loki a look. He's been talked down to in that sort of way enough times now to know what's going on]] We're in a storybook world, where people are being told that they're heroes and expected to go out and save the kingdom, what else did you expect? [[There's an unexpected bitterness in his voice, the influences of his brother figures and his years in the City coming through]] Being put on a horse doesn't make you a knight, being given magic doesn't make you a master wizard, being titled a hero doesn't make you anything more than what you were before you were given that title.

[[a deep sigh as the bitter drains from his voice, leaving him looking far more like what people expect of him]] Worlds like these.... they're what you make of them. What you make them into. If everyone's an idiot, find the ones who aren't and screw the rest. [[...so maybe the bitterness was still there.]] You don't have to be a jerk about things just because not everyone is what you expected.

[sorcerous]

So we are to be fellows, are we, because we share confusion, fear, unfamiliarity. Those are a poor basis for alliance.

[sorcerous]

Because then I will try to kill you, too.

[fridgetothefire]

What, are you going after him with a magical nuke? Everyone he's ever met burns?

[No that's wrong tone, but a decent about of that's dumb.]

[sorcerous]

A leader who cannot defeat a crisis deserves what he gets.

[ He cares nothing for that bitterness; he has more than enough of his own. But a ruler must be deserving, must be strong, must be clever, wise. The King is none of these, and as long as he is none, Loki may use his failures to justify what he would have done regardless (though, if in other circumstances he would have defected with much more subtlety).

He will not stay by Thor. Not when Sif has seen his true form. Not when all that he is has come unraveled, leaving him no choices. Not now. ]

[sorcerous]

You don't know him.

[ A breath. Loki forces himself to explain. ]

Thor... inspires. Those he meet learn to love him. Without fail. And they fight for him. I cannot trust any who have touched his life.

[shiromadoushi]

And you're going to let just that one person drive you away?

[sorcerous]

And what is so wonderful that would have kept me here?

Then I guess we're both lucky I'm not capable of love.
